The International Pulsar Timing Array second data release: Search for an isotropic gravitational wave background

J. Antoniadis et al.

Summary: In this study, we searched for an isotropic stochastic gravitational wave background using the second data release of the International Pulsar Timing Array. We found evidence for a spectrally similar low-frequency stochastic process and demonstrated that the combined international data set is more sensitive. Although no significant evidence of a gravitational-wave origin was found, future international data releases are expected to increase sensitivity and detection probability.

New sensitivity curves for gravitational-wave signals from cosmological phase transitions

Kai Schmitz

Summary: This paper presents novel peak-integrated sensitivity curves (PISCs) for predicting the sensitivity to gravitational wave signals from strong first-order phase transitions in the early Universe. These PISCs offer advantages over conventional methods and directly encode information on the expected signal-to-noise ratio.

Phase transitions from the fifth dimension

Kaustubh Agashe et al.

Summary: This study focuses on the cosmological transition of 5D warped compactifications, demonstrating the percolation of bubbles of IR-brane nucleating from the black-brane horizon. Through semiclassical treatment of bubble nucleation, a smooth 5D bounce configuration is introduced to control the transition rate effectively. The generalization of the Goldberger-Wise mechanism modifies the IR-brane dynamics for a quicker transition, resolving issues related to supercooling and inconsistencies with data.

Avoided deconfinement in Randall-Sundrum models

Prateek Agrawal et al.

Summary: The study focuses on first order phase transitions in Randall-Sundrum models in the early universe related to confinement in large-N gauge theories. The proposed mechanism of avoided deconfinement aims to stabilize the theory and allows for a viable cosmology for theories with parametrically large N.

Theoretical uncertainties for cosmological first-order phase transitions

Summary: This study critically examines the magnitude of theoretical uncertainties in perturbative calculations of fist-order phase transitions. It finds that using a more sophisticated perturbative approach with dimensional reduction drastically reduces the scale dependence and resolves other problems with daisy resummation.

Summary: A proposal for a space-based interferometer to survey the gravitational wave sky in the milli-Hz to mu-Hz frequency range, filling the largest gap in the astrophysically relevant GW spectrum and addressing many outstanding questions related to astrophysics and cosmology. This new instrument is envisioned to be a comprehensive observatory, significantly expanding the potential of LISA and serving as a cornerstone for multimessenger astronomy.

Escape from supercooling with or without bubbles: gravitational wave signatures

Marek Lewicki et al.

Summary: Quasi-conformal models provide an appealing scenario with a strong supercooled phase transition and thermal inflation in the early Universe. The study suggests that thermal inflation phase may end by nucleation and percolation of true vacuum bubbles, or by the growth of quantum fluctuations of the scalar field. Gravitational waves offer an observable signal from thermal inflation across almost the entire parameter space of interest, and their spectrum shape can reveal how the Universe escaped from supercooling.

Gravitational wave detection with photometric surveys

Yijun Wang et al.

Summary: The gravitational wave detections have greatly expanded our understanding of the universe, with all events so far detected by interferometer-type detectors. A new GW detection technique based on astrometric solutions from photometric surveys is proposed in this paper, showing potential to complement existing methods. The high-cadence observations of the galactic bulge, such as the Roman Space Telescope's Exoplanet MicroLensing survey, could serve as a potent GW probe with a frequency range complementary to other detectors like Gaia and pulsar timing arrays.

Overcounting of interior excitations: a resolution to the bags of gold paradox in AdS

Joydeep Chakravarty

Summary: This work investigates how single-sided and eternal black holes can contain a vast number of semiclassical excitations in their interior, proposing a new solution to resolve the paradox in entropy. By describing the interior of black holes in Hilbert space, the resolution of the paradox arising from the orthogonal relationships between these excitations is provided.
