A self-regulated gradient interphase for dendrite-free solid-state Li batteries

Tengrui Wang et al.

Summary: This study addresses the major challenges in solid-state Li metal batteries (SSLMBs) by using a functional gradient Li anode (FGLA), which reduces the interface resistance and suppresses Li dendrite growth. The FGLA not only dramatically reduces the resistance at the interface, but also increases the critical current density, showing excellent cycling performances with different cathode materials.

Data-driven discovery of small electroactive molecules for energy storage in aqueous redox flow batteries

Qi Zhang et al.

Summary: In this study, a high-throughput virtual screening approach was used to explore quinone-like anolytes for aqueous redox flow batteries (ARFBs). By designing a virtual chemical library, predicting redox properties, machine learning solubility prediction, searching for commercial availability, and electrochemical characterization, potential compounds with higher solubility and lower redox potential than the current anolyte were identified. Among the selected commercially available compounds, indigo trisulfonate showed superior performance in terms of solubility, capacity retention, and coulombic efficiency.

Reversible ketone hydrogenation and dehydrogenation for aqueous organic redox flow batteries

Ruozhu Feng et al.

Summary: The research shows that molecular engineering of fluorenone enables alcohol electro-oxidation without the use of a catalyst at room temperature, allowing for reversible ketone hydrogenation and dehydrogenation reactions. Flow batteries based on this technology operate efficiently in a non-demanding environment, exhibiting stable cycling performance at ambient and mildly increased temperatures. This expands the application range of organic active materials and suggests potential for identifying other promising organic redox couple candidates.
