Adaptive Neural Network Control for a Class of Nonlinear Systems With Function Constraints on States

Yan-Jun Liu et al.

Summary: This article investigates the problem of tracking control for a class of nonlinear time-varying full state constrained systems. The intelligent controller and adaptive law are developed by constructing the time-varying asymmetric barrier Lyapunov function (BLF) and combining it with the backstepping algorithm. Neural networks (NNs) are used to approximate the uncertain function. This article considers constraint boundaries that are both related to state and time, making the design of the control algorithm more complex and difficult. The effectiveness of the control algorithm is verified through numerical simulation.

Disturbance Observer-Based Adaptive Intelligent Control of Marine Vessel With Position and Heading Constraint Condition Related to Desired Output

Lei Liu et al.

Summary: This article studies the adaptive control of geodetic fixed positions and heading for a three-degree-of-freedom dual-propeller vessel. It focuses on ensuring that the vessel can smoothly follow the desired geodesic fixed position and heading, as well as adapt to changes in position and heading in harsh sailing environments. The article proposes a control strategy that combines a log-type barrier Lyapunov function, an unknown external disturbance observer, and a neural network (NN) control strategy. The designed control strategy is shown to be effective and stable through Lyapunov stability analysis and simulation experiments.

Active Learning for Estimating Reachable Sets for Systems With Unknown Dynamics

Ankush Chakrabarty et al.

Summary: This article presents a data-driven method for computing reachable sets using active learning (AL) to reduce computational burden. The method can estimate reachable sets effectively, even without a model, by generating state trajectory data. By exploiting submodularity, active learning samples can be selected efficiently. The article also proposes a framework to reduce the dependency on expensive oracles for sample labeling.

Security-Based Resilient Robust Model Predictive Control for Polytopic Uncertain Systems Subject to Deception Attacks and RR Protocol

Jianhua Wang et al.

Summary: This article focuses on a security-based resilient robust model predictive control (RMPC) problem for a class of discrete-time polytopic uncertain systems with deception attacks and the round-robin (RR) protocol. The well-known RR protocol is adopted to reduce the communication burden, while a representative attack model and a definition of mean-square (MS) security in H-2-sense are utilized to explain the dynamics of the controlled systems. Sufficient conditions are obtained using stochastic analysis methods and inequality analysis techniques to satisfy the desirable security requirements, and a convex optimization problem is formulated using the cone complementary linearization (CCL) method. Finally, the proposed techniques are demonstrated to be effective through two examples, including a high-purity distillation example and a numerical example.

Toward Safer Navigation of Heterogeneous Mobile Robots in Distributed Scheme: A Novel Time-to-Collision-Based Method

Mohammadali Shahriari et al.

Summary: This article introduces a new navigation methodology for heterogeneous multiple mobile robots (HMRs) by incorporating dynamics through calculating the time to collision (TTC) and designing a new controller to avoid collisions. The proposed TTC-based controller proves to be less conservative and effectively prevents collisions compared to controllers that only consider the robots' kinematics. The outcomes of this work provide more reliable motion control for HMRs, especially in environments with limited space or when robots have significantly different masses or inertias.

Summary: The article introduces an online evolving method, e-FSM, for developing an optimal Markov driving model, where states and transition dynamics evolve without human supervision. An advanced online evolving framework, a-OEF, is also presented to support reinforcement-learning-based controller decision making with the evolved model. Control Barrier Functions With Unmodeled Input Dynamics Using Integral Quadratic Constraints

Peter Seiler et al.

Summary: This letter discusses the design of controllers that deal with unmodeled dynamics at the system's input. Simplified and low-order models are usually adopted in such designs. Unmodeled dynamics, like actuator dynamics and time delays, can result in safety violations. The letter proposes a method that combines control barrier functions (CBFs) and integral quadratic constraints (IQCs) to ensure safety in the presence of these unmodeled dynamics. By solving a convex optimization problem subject to the CBF constraint with the alpha-IQC in real-time, a safe controller is implemented. A simple example is provided to demonstrate the approach.

Parameter Identification With Finite-Convergence Time Alertness Preservation

Romeo Ortega et al.

Summary: In this letter note, two new parameter identifiers are presented, whose estimates converge in finite time under weak interval excitation assumptions. The main novelty is that these schemes maintain the finite-convergence time property even when the parameters change, in contrast to other finite-convergence time estimators. Continuous-time and discrete-time versions of the new estimators are also provided.

Summary: A new framework is developed for controlling constrained nonlinear systems with structured parametric uncertainty. This framework achieves forward invariance of a safe set through online parameter adaptation and data-driven model estimation. The method is successfully tested on the pitch dynamics of an aircraft with uncertain nonlinear aerodynamics, showing a more general unification compared to other safety controllers.

Control Barrier Function-Based Quadratic Programs Introduce Undesirable Asymptotically Stable Equilibria

Matheus F. Reis et al.

Summary: Control Lyapunov functions (CLFs) and control barrier functions (CBFs) have been used to develop provably safe controllers by means of quadratic programs (QPs). However, the framework can introduce equilibrium points, particularly at the boundary of the safe set, into the closed-loop system. Explicit conditions are derived to ensure stability of these undesired equilibria, providing a solution to avoid them in the design of collision-free controllers.
