Why there is no need to use a big-M in linear bilevel optimization: a computational study of two ready-to-use approaches

Thomas Kleinert et al.

Summary: Linear bilevel optimization problems have been a focus of attention in both theory and practical applications of Operations Research. The big-M reformulation of the KKT conditions has been the most popular method, despite its theoretical problems. In this note, we introduce a competitive approach that applies the SOS-1 technique to the KKT complementarity conditions and includes a simple additional root-node inequality proposed by Kleinert et al. (2020).

MPC-Based Decentralized Voltage Control in Power Distribution Systems With EV and PV Coordination

Lusha Wang et al.

Summary: Distribution systems are increasingly complex due to the growth of distributed energy resources and electric vehicles. Photovoltaic inverters and power curtailment are commonly used to mitigate voltage-related problems, but the flexibility of EVs can be harnessed to avoid curtailment and save energy. This study presents a decentralized voltage control algorithm that takes into account both active and reactive power compensation from PV inverters and EVs, providing an effective solution to voltage issues.

Active and Reactive Power Control of PEV Fast Charging Stations Using a Consecutive Horizon-Based Energy Management Process

Arian Zahedmanesh et al.

Summary: The article proposes a consecutive horizon-based energy management (CHEM) process for the optimal techno-economic operation of fast-charging stations (FCSs), integrating central supervisory control and distributed control for energy management and power control in order to maintain grid codes. Additionally, with the use of battery energy storage systems (ESS) and a new Volt/VAr control method, FCSs can autonomously handle PEV charging fluctuations and limit voltage deviations, ultimately reducing costs and ensuring convenience for PEV owners.
