Data-Driven Detection of Stealthy False Data Injection Attack Against Power System State Estimation

Chunyu Chen et al.

Summary: This article presents a two-step approach for detecting false data injection attacks (FDIAs) in power system state estimation (PSSE). The first step involves studying a novel stealthy attack policy that considers the cost reduction and damage production for the attacker. In the second step, an unsupervised detection scheme using a deep autoencoding Gaussian mixture model (DAGMM) is designed to detect the stealthy attack. The DAGMM-based detector meets the requirements of rapidity, unsupervisedness, and data imbalance tolerance.

Spatio-Temporal Correlation-Based False Data Injection Attack Detection Using Deep Convolutional Neural Network

Guangdou Zhang et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a novel Spatio-temporal detection mechanism to evaluate and locate false data injection attacks in power systems. The method analyzes temporal and spatial correlation using cubature Kalman filter and Gaussian process regression, respectively, capturing the dynamic features of state vectors. A deep convolutional neural network is trained to depict the functional relationship between Spatio-temporal correlation functions and the output, serving as the detection indicator. Numerical simulations on the IEEE 39-bus test system show that the proposed method achieves an accuracy of 99.84%-100%.

Osman Boyaci et al.

Summary: This paper proposes an approach based on the graph neural network (GNN) to detect and localize false data injection attacks (FDIA) in power systems. The approach exploits the graph topology of power systems and the spatial correlations of measurement data to identify the presence and location of the attacks. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed approach outperforms existing methods in different test systems.

Complete stealthiness false data injection attacks against dynamic state estimation in cyber-physical systems

Guang-Yuan Yang et al.

Summary: This paper discusses the design of complete stealthiness false data injection (FDI) attacks in cyber-physical systems with Kullback-Leiber divergence (KLD) detector. Unlike previous research on FDI attacks against KLD detector, the complete stealthiness attacks can completely eliminate their influences on innovation. The paper presents the sufficient and necessary design conditions for achieving these attacks, and introduces a data-driven attack method based on subspace identification when the attacker cannot obtain system parameters. The effectiveness of the main results is verified using a DC motor system and an unmanned ground vehicle system.

Summary: This article proposes a distributed false data injection attack (FDIA) method that attacks the boundary buses in a power system and injects arbitrary errors using measurement data. The results show that this attack method can bypass existing distributed estimators and detection methods and optimize the attack vector to minimize the maximum difference in area errors. Additionally, an unsupervised machine learning-based detection method is proposed and validated in experiments.

Network Parameter Coordinated False Data Injection Attacks Against Power System AC State Estimation

Chensheng Liu et al.

Summary: False data injection (FDI) attacks have been introduced as a significant class of cyber-attacks against power system state estimation. Attackers inject well-constructed false data to misguide results of state estimation by modifying measurements coordinately. A network parameter coordinated false data injection (NP-FDI) attack is proposed in this article to reduce the number of attacked measurements, with feasible conditions for minimizing attacks on a single line and a sparse attack strategy for the whole grid. Simulation results on IEEE 14-bus and IEEE 118-bus test systems evaluate the performance of NP-FDI attacks on sparsity and stealth.
