Adaptive Dual Droop Control of MTDC Integrated Offshore Wind Farms for Fast Frequency Support

Yongxin Xiong et al.

Summary: This paper presents an adaptive dual droop control (ADDC) scheme that enables onshore systems to provide fast frequency support to disturbed onshore systems and voltage source converter-based multi-terminal direct current (VSC-MTDC) integrated offshore wind farms (OWFs). The proposed scheme detects disturbed and undisturbed systems and facilitates more frequency support power from undisturbed onshore systems, while ensuring safe operation by regulating the droop coefficients. Additionally, the offshore stations estimate onshore DC voltage as a control signal for fast frequency support, and the OWFs recover rotor speed with an asymptotic control scheme to reduce frequency drops.

Quantifying Resilience of Wide-Area Damping Control Against Cyber Attack Based on Switching System Theory

Yifan Zhao et al.

Summary: This paper introduces a new index, resilience margin, to quantify the strongest cyber attack that a power system with WADC can tolerate, and presents a practical calculation algorithm. The simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the calculation algorithm and the significance of resilience margin in the design of WADCs.

The collapse of Venezuela's electricity sector from an energy governance perspective

J. E. Leon-Vielma et al.

Summary: This paper analyzes the historical evolution of the Venezuelan Electricity Sector (VES) from the 1940s to the present, identifies the causes that have led to the current chaotic situation in power supply, and proposes corrective measures. The study finds that Venezuela's energy governance policy has been characterized by extractivism throughout the 20th century, which has continued in the 21st century. The lack of market mechanisms, company financing schemes, stable regulation, and control mechanisms have resulted in inefficiencies and contributed to the collapse of the sector.

Two-Level Combined Control Scheme of VSC-MTDC Integrated Offshore Wind Farms for Onshore System Frequency Support

Yongxin Xiong et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a two-level combined control scheme for voltage source converter-based multi-terminal high-voltage direct current integrated offshore wind farms to provide frequency support for the onshore system and reduce the second frequency drop. The scheme includes adaptive control at the wind turbine level and communication-free allocation control at the onshore VSC station level. Simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness and universality of the proposed scheme under different scenarios.
