Late early to early middle Eocene climate and vegetation change at Tastakh Lake (northern Yakutia, eastern Siberia)

Olesya Bondarenko et al.

Summary: This study quantitatively analyzes the climate and vegetation evolution during the late early - early middle Eocene in northern Yakutia for the first time, based on a palaeobotanical record. The results suggest the persistence of warm temperate and nearly tropical climate conditions in the earlier part of the record, followed by a cooling trend. The study also reveals the prevalence of mixed evergreen-deciduous forests and overall humid climate conditions throughout the studied period.

Comprehensive molecular and morphological analysis of Brachystemma calycinum and Stellaria ovatifolia in the tribe Alsineae (Caryophyllaceae)

Wen-Qiao Wang et al.

Summary: Over the past decade, the composition of the Alsineae tribe in the Caryophyllaceae family has undergone significant changes due to molecular phylogeny studies. However, the Brachystemma genus and its phylogenetic position have not been previously sampled. Similarly, the related species Stellaria ovatifolia has not been included in previous studies. Through phylogenetic analyses using molecular markers, it was found that Brachystemma belongs to the Alsineae tribe and is closely related to S. ovatifolia. Furthermore, characteristics such as apically lobed petals and numerous seeds may be ancestral traits in the Alsineae tribe. These findings support the inclusion of Stellaria ovatifolia within the Brachystemma genus, which now consists of two species.

Phylogenomic analyses highlight innovation and introgression in the continental radiations of Fagaceae across the Northern Hemisphere

Biao-Feng Zhou et al.

Summary: This study reveals the evolutionary history and evidence of adaptive introgression in the Fagaceae family through the analysis of nuclear and plastid genomes. Innovations related to seed dispersal triggered large-scale diversification, and white oak diversification further spread across continents.

Biogeographic history and diversification patterns in the Irano-Turanian genus Acanthophyllum s.l. (Caryophyllaceae)

Masoumeh Mahmoudi Shamsabad et al.

Summary: This study reveals the origin and diversification history of Acanthophyllum since the Miocene, as well as a shift in speciation rate in the late Pliocene. Furthermore, common underlying abiotic and biotic factors for diversification and speciation in the Irano-Turanian region are proposed based on similarities with other species-rich genera in the area.

Phylogenetic estimation and morphological evolution of Alsineae (Caryophyllaceae) shed new insight into the taxonomic status of the genus Pseudocerastium

Gang Yao et al.

Summary: Pseudocerastium is a monotypic genus of the Caryophyllaceae family endemic to China. Recent studies using morphological and molecular evidence have shown its phylogenetic position within Caryophyllaceae and its close relationship with Cerastium. The genus Pseudocerastium has been synonymized with Cerastium based on the present evidence.
