Deletion and tandem duplications of biosynthetic genes drive the diversity of triterpenoids in Aralia elata

Yu Wang et al.

Summary: Araliaceae species produce various triterpene and triterpenoid saponins. The lack of genome sequences of Panax relatives has hindered mechanistic insight into the divergence of triterpene saponins in Araliaceae. This study presents a chromosome-level genome of Aralia elata and reveals the loss of a key gene and tandem duplications of triterpene biosynthetic genes as driving factors for the structural divergences of saponins in Araliaceae.

GuRhaGT, a highly specific saponin 2′′-O-rhamnosyltransferase from Glycyrrhiza uralensis

Zi-Long Wang et al.

Summary: In this study, a highly regio- and donor-specific enzyme GuRhaGT was isolated from the medicinal plant Glycyrrhiza uralensis, which efficiently catalyses the glycosylation reaction at the 2''-OH site of the C-3 glycosyl moiety of triterpenoid saponins.

Quality evaluation for Dipacus asperoides from Enshi areas and optimization extraction of saponins and organic acids and its application

Zuoxi Wan et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the quality of the traditional perennial herb Dipacus asperoides (DA) in China, showing that DA grown in Hefeng had superior characteristic components compared to other samples, with significantly higher content of Asp. VI in cultivated DA than in the wild one. Furthermore, the flowers and leaves of DA were found to be rich in organic acids and could be used for further applications.
