Molecular Variation and Phylogeny within Fusarium avenaceum and Related Species

Tapani Yli-Mattila et al.

Summary: This study investigated the phylogeny of the Fusarium tricinctum species complex (FTSC) using DNA sequences of translation elongation factor 1-alpha (TEF1) and beta-tubulin (TUB2). The results supported the existence of at least four main groups within the FTSC. Additionally, some strains were found to differ significantly from the main groups and were classified into single, intermediate, or sister groups. All analyzed strains were capable of producing different enniatins and 2-amino-14,16-dimethyloctadecan-3-ol, but not beauvericin.

Yield Losses and Control by Sedaxane and Fludioxonil of Soilborne Rhizoctonia, Microdochium, and Fusarium Species in Winter Wheat

Matthew Brown et al.

Summary: Soilborne Rhizoctonia, Microdochium, and Fusarium species are major causal agents of seedling and stem-base diseases of wheat. Seed treatments formulated with sedaxane and fludioxonil showed effectiveness in reducing the impact of these soilborne pathogens on wheat, with significant reductions in emergence and establishment associated with R. cerealis, but weak pathogenicity from R. solani AG 2-1 and AG 5, and minimal impact from soilborne Fusarium species.

Species diversity and mycotoxin production by members of the Fusarium tricinctum species complex associated with Fusarium head blight of wheat and barley in Italy

M. T. Senatore et al.

Summary: Fusarium head blight (FHB) is a global cereal disease caused by a complex of Fusarium species that can produce mycotoxins compromising food quality. In a study in Italy, it was found that the Fusarium tricinctum species complex (FTSC) has wide genetic diversity and potential to produce mycotoxins.
