Root Growth Dynamics, Dominant Rhizosphere Bacteria, and Correlation Between Dominant Bacterial Genera and Root Traits Through Brassica napus Development

Zelalem M. Taye et al.

Summary: This study examines the dynamics of root growth and dominant rhizosphere bacterial taxa in Brassica napus, and their association under field conditions. The findings show significant positive correlations between bacterial genera and root traits, as well as between root length and seed yield. These results highlight the potential for developing canola breeding and management strategies based on root development and beneficial microbial interactions.

Silicon Fertigation Regimes Attenuates Cadmium Toxicity and Phytoremediation Potential in Two Maize (Zea mays L.) Cultivars by Minimizing Its Uptake and Oxidative Stress

Muhammad Hamzah Saleem et al.

Summary: Silicon, an important plant metabolite, plays a crucial role in maintaining plant stability under abiotic stressed conditions. This study found that cadmium contamination in sand significantly reduced the growth and biomass of maize plants, but foliar application of silicon mitigated cadmium toxicity and improved plant growth and composition.

Effect of cadmium and ethylenediamine tetraacetic acid supplementation on cadmium accumulation by roots of Brassica species in Cd spiked soil

Salwinder Singh Dhaliwal et al.

Summary: The study investigated the effect of adding the chelating agent ethylenediamine tetraacetic acid (EDTA) on the uptake of cadmium (Cd) by different Brassica species (Brassica juncea L., Brassica campestris L., and Brassica napus L.). Results showed that, with increasing Cd and EDTA levels, the overall root dry biomass of all tested species decreased, while Brassica juncea exhibited the highest Cd accumulation at certain Cd and EDTA levels.

Biochar and soil properties limit the phytoavailability of lead and cadmium by Brassica chinensis L. in contaminated soils

Assa Albert Houssou et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of biochars derived from cinnamomum woodchip, garden waste, and mulberry woodchip on the phytoavailability of lead and cadmium in soil, as well as their uptake by Chinese cabbage. The results showed that the amendment of soil with biochar significantly reduced the mobility of Cd and Pb in soil and plant uptake. However, the effects varied depending on the type of biochar and soil properties.
