Labdane diterpenoids from the heartwood of Leucosceptrum canum that impact on root growth and seed germination of Arabidopsis thaliana

Yan Liu et al.

Summary: Eleven undescribed diterpenoids, named leucolactones A-K, were isolated from Leucosceptrum canum, a large woody Lamiaceae plant. They showed significant inhibitory effects on seed germination and root elongation of Arabidopsis thaliana. The diastereomeric leucolactones G and H exhibited the highest potency for root elongation. Leucolactone H was found to alter auxin accumulation and distribution, possibly contributing to heartwood formation.

Phenylpropanoid amides from Physalis pubescens and their chemotaxonomic significance

Junfeng Hao et al.

Summary: Phytochemical investigation of the stems and leaves of Physalis pubescens led to the isolation of ten compounds, including a new phenylpropanoid amide and nine known analogues. Extensive spectroscopic analyses (UV, NMR, HR-ESIMS) were used to identify their structures, with compounds 1-4 and 9-10 reported from the genus Physalis for the first time. The chemotaxonomic significance of the isolates was also discussed.

Sesquiterpenes from Ambrosia artemisiifolia and their allelopathy

Zhixiang Liu et al.

Summary: Ambrosia artemisiifolia, an invasive plant, has been found to release four sesquiterpenes that have inhibitory effects on native and model plants. Compound 1 shows the strongest inhibitory effect. The study also reveals the preliminary action mechanism of compound 1 and the release pathway of compounds 1-3.

Dynamics of invasive alien plant species in China under climate change scenarios

Wenqin Tu et al.

Summary: This study utilized the Maximum Entropy model to simulate the distribution dynamics of four invasive plants in China under current and future climate conditions, revealing that the suitable habitat areas of these plants will significantly expand in the future, with different levels of expansion for each species. Additionally, the habitat centers of these plants will shift northward in the future.

Pyrrole alkaloids from Solanum rostratum and their chemical defense function against Henosepilachna vigintioctomaculata

Zhixiang Liu et al.

Summary: Three pairs of novel enantiomeric pyrrole alkaloids were isolated from the leaves of Solanum rostratum and showed different levels of antifeedant and growth-inhibitory activities against a noxious herbivore. Interestingly, enantioselectivity was observed in which certain configurations displayed stronger chemical defense function.

Drought Stress Influences the Growth and Physiological Characteristics of Solanum rostratum Dunal Seedlings From Different Geographical Populations in China

Hailun Yu et al.

Summary: Studies have shown that invasive plants in northern and northwest China exhibit significant differences in physiological responses and tolerance mechanisms to drought stress. The Xinjiang population of Solanum rostratum mainly relies on root/shoot ratio and chlorophyll fluorescence characteristics to cope with drought, while the Inner Mongolia population depends on osmotic adjustment substances and leaf dry matter content. These findings suggest that invasive plants adapt differently to harsh environments, posing threats to agricultural production and ecological security in northern China.

Insect and plant invasions follow two waves of globalisation

Aymeric Bonnamour et al.

Summary: Research has shown that invasion rates of insects and plants did not continuously increase over the past centuries, but fluctuated greatly following two waves of globalisation. This highlights the association between temporal variations in trade openness and biological invasion dynamics, emphasizing the importance of better understanding socio-economic drivers for predicting future invasions.
