Investigation and analysis of etiology associated with porcine respiratory disease complex in China from 2017 to 2021

Qi Sun et al.

Summary: The present study investigated and analyzed the etiology and pathogens associated with Porcine respiratory diseases complex (PRDC) in China. The results showed that PRRSV, PCV2, S. suis, and G. parasuis were the major pathogens in pigs with PRDC. Pigs of different ages exhibited different susceptibilities to these pathogens, and coinfections of two or more PRDC-related pathogens with strong positive correlations were common.

PangenomeNet: a pan-genome-based network reveals functional modules on antimicrobial resistome for Escherichia coli strains

Hsuan-Lin Her et al.

Summary: This study introduced a method (PangenomeNet) to build co-functional networks from pan-genomes, demonstrating its effectiveness in inferring functions for hypothetical genes using Escherichia coli as an example. The constructed network revealed functional organization in antimicrobial resistomes, including drug-specific resistance genes and shared functional roles among different drug classes. The approach shows promise in providing holistic views on antimicrobial resistomes and formulating hypotheses for targeted experimental works.

Deletion of the crp gene affects the virulence and the activation of the NF-κB and MAPK signaling pathways in PK-15 and iPAM cells derived from G. parasuis serovar 5

Changsheng Jiang et al.

Summary: The study revealed that the crp gene in G. parasuis regulates adhesion, invasion, and virulence-related factors in host cells. Deletion of the crp gene reduces the pathogenicity of G. parasuis, suggesting it could be a potential target for developing a novel vaccine against the bacteria. The study provides important insights for future research on combating G. parasuis infections.

Sialylated Lipooligosaccharide Contributes to Glaesserella parasuis Penetration of Porcine Respiratory Epithelial Barrier

Huan Wang et al.

Summary: Pathogens utilize sialylation as an important mechanism to evade the host immune system and cause infection. The lipooligosaccharide sialylation modification in G. parasuis may play a role in invasion of the respiratory epithelial barrier through the generation of TGF beta 1.

Swine health: history, challenges and prospects

Jose Francisco Rivera-Benitez et al.

Summary: The health of pigs is a critical point in swine production systems, where infectious diseases pose significant threats, leading to potential losses of up to 100% of production. Collaboration between various actors in the environment is crucial for the control of infectious diseases, which should be considered a public good.

Biofilm characteristics and transcriptomic analysis of Haemophilus parasuis

Ruijiao Jiang et al.

Summary: H. parasuis is a conditional pathogen capable of forming biofilms, which can lead to drug resistance and chronic infections in pigs. This study investigated the three-dimensional morphology of biofilms and transcriptomic analysis to identify genes related to biofilm formation. The results showed rapid growth and stability of H. parasuis biofilms, with differentially expressed genes implicated in bacterial colonization and metabolic pathways. This research provides insight into biofilm formation mechanisms and potential drug targets against H. parasuis.
