Modification of Rhizosphere Microbial Communities: A Possible Mechanism of Plant Growth Promoting Rhizobacteria Enhancing Plant Growth and Fitness

Zhaoyu Kong et al.

Summary: Plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR) play a crucial role in promoting plant growth and health through various mechanisms, including modulating root zone microbial community and soil functionality. However, the underlying mechanisms of PGPR's positive effects are not well understood and further ecological research is needed.

Long-term effect of epigenetic modification in plant-microbe interactions: modification of DNA methylation induced by plant growth-promoting bacteria mediates promotion process

Chen Chen et al.

Summary: This study identifies a new mechanism in which plant growth-promoting bacteria (PGPB) affect DNA methylation in roots to promote plant growth. The results show that the assembly of the rhizosphere microbiome is driven by plant development, and DNA methylation modifications in roots remain functional even after the elimination of the inoculum from the microbiome.

Inoculation with plant growth-promoting bacteria alters the rhizosphere functioning of tomato plants

Monica Yorlady Alzate Zuluaga et al.

Summary: Inoculation with plant growth-promoting bacteria significantly increased root and shoot dry biomass of tomato plants, leading to distinct metabolic changes in the rhizosphere, particularly the accumulation of flavonoids and other phenolics. The functional diversity of rhizosphere microbiome differed between plants treated with different PGPB strains, with carbohydrates, carboxylic acids, amino acids, and polymers being the main contributors to these differences.

Structure and driving factors of the soil microbial community associated with Alhagi sparsifolia in an arid desert

Wenjing Li et al.

Summary: Soil microbial community structure is influenced by soil water content, salinity, pH, and soil nutrients, with soil nutrients being the main driving factor. Nitrogen has differential effects on different microbial communities, mainly affecting the bacterial community of Alhagi sparsifolia through nitrate nitrogen and the fungal community through ammonium nitrogen.

Differential microbial assemblages associated with shikonin-producing Borage species in two distinct soil types

Aliya Fazal et al.

Summary: The research focused on studying microbial profiles of two Borage species to identify dynamics of microbial colonization pattern within different rhizo-compartments and soil types. Results showed genotype and soil type-dependent fine-tuning of microbial profiles, with host plants affecting soil properties and resulting in reproducibly different microbiota. The data provided insights on manipulating keystone microbes for ecosystem functioning in the future.

Streptomyces sp. JCK-6131 Protects Plants Against Bacterial and Fungal Diseases via Two Mechanisms

Khanh Duy Le et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that Streptomyces sp. JCK-6131 shows promising effects in controlling plant bacterial and fungal diseases through both antibiosis and induced resistance mechanisms. Treatment with JCK-6131 inhibited the growth of various phytopathogenic bacteria and fungi, and also induced the expression of pathogenesis-related genes in plants, leading to enhanced defense resistance. This bacterium produces antimicrobial compounds and can effectively control diseases like apple fire blight, tomato bacterial wilt, and cucumber Fusarium wilt.

Assessment of Carbon Substrate Catabolism Pattern and Functional Metabolic Pathway for Microbiota of Limestone Caves

Suprokash Koner et al.

Summary: The efficient carbon catabolism of bacterial communities is key in biomineralization in limestone-rich areas. In caves where carbon sources are scarce, a study investigated carbon substrate utilization by soil and rock microbial communities through Biolog EcoPlate (TM) assay and 16S rRNA analysis, finding that microbes outside caves had higher activity and utilization rates compared to those inside. Taxonomic analysis revealed different predominant bacterial phyla in each environment, with functional predictions showing involvement in various metabolic pathways.
