Evaluation of seasonal changes in physicochemical and bacteriological parameters of Gomti River in Bangladesh

Farzana Yasmin et al.

Summary: This study investigated the pollution status of the Gomti River in Bangladesh by collecting water samples and analyzing their physicochemical and bacteriological parameters. The results showed that the physicochemical parameters were within the recommended guidelines. However, higher levels of iron, nickel, and zinc were found in the dry season. Furthermore, the presence of various pathogenic bacteria in the river water exceeded the permissible limits, making it unsuitable for drinking, domestic use, and fish farming. The priority pollutants of concern in the Gomti River water are iron, nickel, zinc, aerobic heterotrophic bacteria, and total coliforms.

Prevalence, Serotypes, and Antimicrobial Resistance Patterns of Non-Typhoid Salmonella in Food in Northern Taiwan

Yi-Jung Chang et al.

Summary: Salmonella is a common cause of food poisoning worldwide, particularly in retail pork and chicken in Taiwan. This study evaluated the prevalence, serotypes, and antimicrobial resistance of Salmonella isolates from various foods. The most common serotypes were Derby, Anatum, and Agona, and the resistance rates to ciprofloxacin, ceftriaxone, and carbapenem were significant. Retail pork was found to be commonly contaminated with antibiotic-resistant Salmonella strains.

Integrative and Conjugative Element-Mediated Azithromycin Resistance in Multidrug-Resistant Salmonella enterica Serovar Albany

Yu-Ping Hong et al.

Summary: In cases of human salmonellosis in Taiwan between 2014 and 2019, a study found that 26.4% of multidrug-resistant Salmonella enterica serovar Albany isolates carried an erm42-carrying integrative and conjugative element, ICE_erm42. Strains carrying ICE_erm42 exhibited high-level resistance to azithromycin and could transfer into phylogenetically distant specie Vibrio cholerae via conjugation.

Association between farm biosecurity practices and antimicrobial usage on commercial chicken farms in Chattogram, Bangladesh

Tasneem Imam et al.

Summary: In commercial poultry farms in the Chattogram district of Bangladesh, inadequate biosecurity measures were found more common in broiler farms compared to layer farms. This resulted in a tendency for prophylactic use of antimicrobials to mitigate disease risk, indicating the importance of improving biosecurity practices to reduce the reliance on antimicrobials.
