EffectorP 3.0: Prediction of Apoplastic and Cytoplasmic Effectors in Fungi and Oomycetes

Jana Sperschneider et al.

Summary: Many fungi and oomycete pathogens secrete effector proteins to facilitate plant infection. A classifier (EffectorP 3.0) has been developed to accurately predict effector proteins in fungal and oomycete secretomes with low false-positive rates.

Analysis of Trichoderma harzianum TR 274 secretome to assign candidate proteins involved in symbiotic interactions with Phaseolus vulgaris

Francilene Lopes da Silva et al.

Summary: Using LC-MS/MS analysis, this study identified and described the proteins secreted by T. harzianum TR274 during its association with common bean. The presence of the host plant affected the number and diversity of proteins secreted by T. harzianum. The identified proteins were mainly glycoside hydrolases, proteases, oxidoreductases, and small soluble cysteine-rich secreted proteins.

Summary: This study analyzed the genome sequences of 11 Clonostachys strains and identified gene families evolving under selection for gene gains or losses. The results showed that gene families involved in drug efflux and biosynthesis of secondary metabolites are under evolutionary pressure in Clonostachys.

Secretome Analysis of Arabidopsis-Trichoderma atroviride Interaction Unveils New Roles for the Plant Glutamate:Glyoxylate Aminotransferase GGAT1 in Plant Growth Induced by the Fungus and Resistance against Botrytis cinerea

Maria del Carmen Gonzalez-Lopez et al.

Summary: This study used gel-free shotgun proteomics to identify the secreted proteins of the plant Arabidopsis thaliana and the mutualistic fungus Trichoderma atroviride during their interaction, revealing enrichment of enzymes in both organisms' secretomes. The fungus showed an increase in glycosidases, aspartic endopeptidases, and dehydrogenases in response to the plant, while the plant secretome showed an increase in peroxidases, cysteine endopeptidases, and enzymes related to metabolite catabolism in response to the fungus. The study also found that the Arabidopsis secreted protein GGAT1 is partially required for plant growth stimulation and plays a role in the negative regulation of plant systemic resistance against B. cinerea by producing H2O2.

Role of Dicer-Dependent RNA Interference in Regulating Mycoparasitic Interactions

Summary: This study investigated the role of DCL-dependent RNAi in mycoparasitic interactions by deleting dcl genes in Clonostachys rosea, revealing the importance of DCL in producing sRNAs involved in antagonistic actions. The study also identified novel microRNA-like RNAs in C. rosea and demonstrated potential cross-species communication mediated by sRNAs targeting virulence factors in other fungi.
