Huixin Liu et al.

Summary: A one-step multiplex qRT-PCR assay with high specificity, sensitivity, and repeatability was successfully developed for the simultaneous and differential detection of ASFV, CSFV, and APPV. The assay showed a detection limit of 2.52 x-10(1) copies/μL for ASFV, CSFV, and APPV. Analysis of clinical samples from Guangxi Province, China, revealed positive rates of 45.58% for ASFV, 12.57% for CSFV, and 3.54% for APPV, with coinfection rates ranging from 0.98% to 4.91%.

Novel Porcine Circoviruses in View of Lessons Learned from Porcine Circovirus Type 2-Epidemiology and Threat to Pigs and Other Species

Hanna Turlewicz-Podbielska et al.

Summary: Porcine circovirus type 2 (PCV2) has caused significant economic losses in the pig husbandry industry in the past 20 years and plays a key role in PCV2-associated diseases (PCVAD). The impact of two recently described porcine circovirus species, PCV3 and PCV4, on the pork industry is still unknown. However, the presence of PCV3 has been associated with clinical symptoms and reproductive failure in pigs, suggesting its pathogenicity and potential economic losses. Further research is needed on PCV3 and PCV4 vaccine design and their immune response and virus characteristics.

Molecular Epidemic Characteristics and Genetic Evolution of Porcine Circovirus Type 2 (PCV2) in Swine Herds of Shanghai, China

Le Kang et al.

Summary: Porcine Circovirus 2 (PCV2) is a crucial pathogen in swine and causes porcine circovirus-associated diseases (PCVADs), which pose a serious economic threat to the global swine industry. Multiple PCV2 genotypes, with PCV2d being the most dominant, were found in commercial pig farms in Shanghai. Critical amino acid substitutions were observed in epitope regions of important capsid proteins, affecting viral replication and host immune response. Co-infection of PCV2 with other lethal swine viral diseases, such as PPV and PPRSV, was also investigated.

Current Understanding of the Pathogenesis of Porcine Circovirus 3

Chaitawat Sirisereewan et al.

Summary: Circoviruses are circular, single-stranded DNA viruses that belong to the family Circoviridae and genus Circovirus. Among them, porcine circoviruses (PCVs) are associated with various clinical symptoms and have limited understanding of their pathogenesis. Recent experimental infection studies provide valuable insights into PCV3 and its pathogenesis, addressing conflicting results and filling knowledge gaps.

Prevalence of porcine parvovirus 1 through 7 (PPV1-PPV7) and co-factor association with PCV2 and PRRSV in Korea

Seung-Chai Kim et al.

Summary: This study investigated the prevalence rates of PPV1-PPV7 in Korea and found that these viruses are widespread. The highest detection rates were found in lung samples, and fattening pigs had higher detection rates, indicating the chronic nature of PPV infections. There were associations between PPV infections and PCV2 and PRRSV, with different viruses having different prevalence rates.

Summary: Coinfection of PCV2 and PRV can enhance the activation of immune and inflammatory pathways, promoting the expression of interferons and interleukins while inhibiting other immune pathways. These results contribute to understanding the immune escape mechanisms of PCV2 and PRV.

Fei Tu et al.

Summary: A novel fluorescent probe-based rRT-RAA assay targeting a conserved region of CSFV was developed, showing high specificity and sensitivity for CSFV detection. The assay exhibited good reproducibility and comparable sensitivity to traditional RT-qPCR, with a high coincidence rate between the two assays. The amplification products could be directly observed with naked eyes under a portable blue light imager, indicating the potential for on-site testing.

Maria Irene Pacini et al.

Summary: This study investigated the infection of wild boar sows and their foetuses by viruses responsible for reproductive failure, revealing that suid herpesvirus 1 and porcine circovirus 2 can infect wild boar foetuses and potentially impact their reproductive performance. The study underscores the importance of continuous monitoring of swine pathogens circulating in the wild environment to prevent potential economic losses and implement appropriate sanitation measures.

Field infection of a gilt and its litter demonstrates vertical transmission and effect on reproductive failure caused by porcine circovirus type 3 (PCV3)

Diana S. Vargas-Bermudez et al.

Summary: This study reported a case of a gilt infected with PCV3 associated with reproductive failures, vertical transmission, tissue lesions, viral replication, and the assumption that some strains of PCV3 clade one are linked to reproductive failures at the field level. Findings suggest that PCV3 can cause disease at the field level, with certain strains potentially leading to reproductive failures.

Evidence of porcine circovirus type 2 and co-infection with ungulate protoparvovirus 1 (porcine parvovirus) in mummies and stillborn piglets in subclinically infected farm

Maria Soledad Serena et al.

Summary: PCV2 and PPV were detected as single or co-infection in fetuses and stillborn piglets from a farm without reproductive problems. Most positive samples were over 70 days of gestation, suggesting fetal immune system impairment when NADL-2 PPV strain was present. Phylogenetic analysis showed sequence variability in ORF2 sequences in Argentina, indicating that current vaccines do not fully protect against fetus infection by PPV or PCV2.

Summary: Porcine parvovirus (PPV) genotypes 1-7 are highly prevalent in Chinese swine herds, with PPV2 and PPV3 being the most common genotypes. Coinfection with two to five genotypes of PPVs is observed in 27.36% of samples, and coinfection with PCV2 is detected in 22.30% of samples. The study also reveals a unique recombinant PPV7 strain from domestic pig isolates. Selective pressure analysis indicates that PPV1-7 are mainly under purifying selection.
