Microbial diversity and the abundance of keystone species drive the response of soil multifunctionality to organic substitution and biochar amendment in a tea plantation

Zhaoqiang Han et al.

Summary: This study found that organic fertilizer substitution and biochar amendment in tea plantations can enhance soil multifunctionality by altering key species abundance. Soil pH plays a crucial role in soil microbial community composition.

Summary: Long-term monocultures affect the soil chemical properties and microbial communities in peanut fields. Continuous cropping increases the activity of certain nutrients, but decreases the relative abundance of potentially beneficial microbes and increases the relative abundance of potentially pathogenic fungi.

Alternaria spp. Associated with Leaf Blight of Maize in Heilongjiang Province, China

Xi Xu et al.

Summary: This study identified and analyzed 168 Alternaria isolates from symptomatic maize leaves, and found four Alternaria species, with Alternaria tenuissima being the most common. Pathogenicity tests showed that maize leaves inoculated with A. alternata had higher disease incidence and disease index compared to A. tenuissima, Alternaria sp., and A. burnsii. Haplotype analyses indicated a population expansion. The study revealed a greater diversity of Alternaria species associated with maize leaf blight in Heilongjiang Province compared to previous reports.

Interlinkages between soil properties and keystone taxa under different tillage practices on the North China Plain

Xueqing Liu et al.

Summary: This study investigated the impacts of different tillage practices on soil microbial community structure, co-occurrence pattern, and keystone taxa, as well as the correlations between keystone taxa and soil properties. The results showed that tillage practices affected soil quality by mediating bacterial diversity and keystone taxa. Additionally, keystone taxa were significantly influenced by soil organic carbon, carbon mineralization, and bulk density.

Soil microbial community assembly and stability are associated with potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) fitness under continuous cropping regime

Songsong Gu et al.

Summary: This study used molecular ecological networks analysis and inter-domain ecological networks analysis to investigate the impact of continuous cropping on the stability and complexity of soil microbial communities. The results showed that continuous cropping led to changes in the stability and complexity of soil microbial communities, with variations among different cultivars. Network analysis revealed the dominant roles of bacteria and fungi in continuous cropping soil communities. Phylogenetic-bin-based null model analysis indicated that continuous cropping mainly influenced the assembly process of soil bacterial communities.

Soil bacterial community in potato tuberosphere following repeated applications of a common scab suppressive antagonist

Lea H. Hiltunen et al.

Summary: This study found that repeated applications of Str272 can change the bacterial community in the potato tuberosphere, leading to soil suppression against potato common scab. Continuous application for three to four years significantly reduces the severity of common scab, and this suppression is likely associated with alterations in the soil bacterial community.
