Oral colon-targeted mucoadhesive micelles with enzyme-responsive controlled release of curcumin for ulcerative colitis therapy

Chen Zhang et al.

Summary: In this study, colon-targeted nano-micelles with mucoadhesive effect and Azo reductase-triggered drug release profiles were developed for the delivery of curcumin in the treatment of ulcerative colitis. The curcumin-loaded micelles exhibited Azo reductase-sensitive particle dissociation and drug release, enhanced cellular uptake, and prolonged retention on colonic mucosa due to the strong mucoadhesion of catechol structure.

Huang Bai Jian Pi decoction alleviates diarrhea and represses inflammatory injury via PI3K/Akt/NF-κB pathway: In vivo and in vitro studies

Zunxiang Yan et al.

Summary: This study investigated the therapeutic effect and anti-inflammatory mechanism of Huang Bai Jian Pi (HBJP) decoction on diarrhea in rats. The results showed that HBJP decoction alleviated clinical symptoms and reduced inflammation. It achieved these effects by inhibiting the PI3K/Akt/NF-kappa B signal pathway. These findings suggest that HBJP decoction could be a promising treatment for diarrhea.

Nano-in-micro alginate/chitosan hydrogel via electrospray technology for orally curcumin delivery to effectively alleviate ulcerative colitis

Chen Zhang et al.

Summary: A novel oral nano-in-micro system was developed for efficient colonic delivery of curcumin (Cur). The system consisted of hyaluronic acid (HA)/zein complex nanoparticles (NPs) loaded with Cur, embedded in alginate/chitosan hydrogel microparticles (Cur@NMPs). The system showed sustained drug release and bio-adhesiveness, and significantly alleviated colitis symptoms.

Mechanisms of Gegen Qinlian Pill to ameliorate irinotecan-induced diarrhea investigated by the combination of serum pharmacochemistry and network pharmacology

Yihan Wu et al.

Summary: This study investigates the beneficial effects of Gegen Qinlian Pill (GQP) in treating irinotecan (CPT-11)-induced gut toxicity and diarrhea. Through identifying 19 GQP-derived chemical compounds in murine serum samples and establishing an interaction network, it is found that GQP exerts curative effects on diarrhea through regulating inflammation, oxidative stress, and proliferation processes via different targets. This provides insights into the pharmacological effects and mechanisms underlying GQP's treatment of CPT-11-induced gut toxicity.
