Geographical indication (GI) represents the specific qualities and reputation of regional characteristics of agricultural products, providing a positive approach for stabilizing agricultural product exports, achieving high quality and high prices, and promoting rural revitalization. This paper discusses the differences between China and the European Union (EU) in terms of GI protection, including institutional frameworks, operational systems, and the status of GIs. The aim of the study is to identify these differences, highlight China's shortcomings, and propose policy recommendations to enhance GI protection, exploit the economic impact of GIs, and improve China's export competitiveness.
