Endoepitaxial growth of monolayer mosaic heterostructures

Zhengwei Zhang et al.

Summary: We have developed a rational synthetic strategy to create mosaic heterostructure arrays in monolayer 2D atomic crystals. By utilizing laser-patterning and anisotropic thermal etching, we achieve precise control over the size and edges of triangular hole arrays, which serve as templates for the growth of monolayer mosaic heterostructures. This research opens up new possibilities for band structure engineering and spatial modulation in atomically thin 2D crystals.

One-Step Synthesis of a Bilayer MoS2/WS2 Lateral Heterojunction for Photoelectric Detection

Shuang Wang et al.

Summary: This study reports a method for the synthesis of bilayer (BL) lateral heterojunctions of transitional-metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) by self-assembly epitaxy. The controlled nucleation layers result in lateral heterojunctions with sharp AB stacking interfaces. It is found that BL lateral heterojunctions exhibit better photoelectric detector performance compared to monolayer TMDs.

Visualizing Band Profiles of Gate-Tunable Junctions in MoS2/WSe2 Heterostructure Transistors

Xinzuo Sun et al.

Summary: Researchers successfully visualized the nanometer-scale band profiles of MoS2/WSe2 heterostructure devices using contact-mode scanning tunneling spectroscopy. Due to strong inter- and intralayer charge transfer, the MoS2 layer changes from n-type to p-type, leading to the development of gate-tunable p-n and p-p(+) junctions in the devices. Highly conductive edges were also discovered, which could significantly impact device properties.

The More, the Better-Recent Advances in Construction of 2D Multi-Heterostructures

Ruijie Zhang et al.

Summary: In recent years, significant advancements have been made in the controlled growth of 2D heterostructures, with a focus on vertical and lateral structures. While vertical heterostructures allow for customizable properties through layer-by-layer formation, challenges persist in fabricating lateral heterostructures. Utilizing the concept of epitaxial growth, chemical vapor deposition (CVD) plays a key role in forming 2D lateral heterostructures. Academic breakthroughs in controlled growth of multi-heterostructures by CVD technique offer guidelines for shaping novel 2D heterostructures, with the potential to drive industrialization and commercialization of 2D materials.
