Magnetoelectric dissociation of Alzheimer's β-amyloid aggregates

Jinhyeong Jang et al.

Summary: This study discovered the dissociation function of magnetoelectric nanomaterials for Aβ aggregates under low-frequency magnetic field and confirmed their alleviating effect on Aβ-associated toxicity. The high efficacy of BCFO nanoparticles for the clearance of Aβ plaques in an AD mouse model was also demonstrated, indicating the potential of magnetoelectric materials for future AD treatment using magnetic fields.

Near-Infrared-Active Copper Molybdenum Sulfide Nanocubes for Phonon-Mediated Clearance of Alzheimer's β-Amyloid Aggregates

Jinhyeong Jang et al.

Summary: This study investigates the efficacy of a novel biocompatible ternary chalcogenide nanomaterial, copper molybdenum sulfide (CMS) nanocubes, in dissociating neurotoxic Alzheimer's beta-amyloid (A beta) aggregates under near-infrared (NIR) light. Results demonstrate that NIR-excited CMS nanocubes effectively disassemble A beta fibrils, alleviating their toxicity and reducing A beta plaques in AD mouse brains without causing macroscopic damage. This suggests the potential therapeutic use of CMS nanocubes for Alzheimer's Disease mitigation.

Internal OH- induced cascade quenching of upconversion luminescence in NaYF4:Yb/Er nanocrystals

Yansong Feng et al.

Summary: Internal hydroxyl impurities have been identified as detrimental factors affecting the upconversion efficiency of upconversion luminescence nanomaterials. By quantifying and adjusting the internal hydroxyl impurity in NaYF4 nanocrystals, researchers have unraveled the microscopic interactions underlying UCL quenching and proposed a concept of Survivor effect to explain the UC dynamical process involving internal hydroxyl. The new quantitative insights obtained from this study are expected to promote the development of highly efficient UC materials.

Flexible and Air-Stable Near-Infrared Sensors Based on Solution-Processed Inorganic-Organic Hybrid Phototransistors

Dingwei Li et al.

Summary: High-performance inorganic-organic hybrid phototransistors were achieved through solution processed n-type metal oxide/polymer semiconductor heterostructures of In2O3/poly{5,5'-bis[3,5-bis(thienyl)phenyl]-2,2'-bithiophene-3-ethylesterthiophene]} (PTPBT-ET). These phototransistors combine fast electron transport from In2O3 with high photoresponse from PTPBT-ET, demonstrating excellent NIR light sensing performance and electrical stability in air. The flexible phototransistor on polyimide substrate also showed outstanding mechanical flexibility, paving the way for flexible NIR image sensor applications.
