Planar D-?-A type thermally activated delayed fluorescence material with Intra- and intermolecular charge transfer characteristics

Simin Jiang et al.

Summary: Intramolecular charge transfer (intra-CT) and intermolecular charge transfer (inter-CT) are two general molecular design strategies for thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) materials. By tuning the doping concentrations, the influence of molecular conjugation on charge transfer can be overcome. The planar molecular skeleton enhances intramolecular electronic coupling, reduces steric hindrance, and shortens intermolecular distance, leading to improved charge transfer efficiency.

In Situ Quantifying the Physical Parameters Determining the Efficiency of OLEDs Relying on Triplet-Triplet Annihilation Up-Conversion

Shu Xiao et al.

Summary: This article establishes an in situ method to quantify the parameters of triplet excitons and relevant TTA process in organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs). Through transient electroluminescence technique, the physical parameters can be quantified in situ. The study finds that minimizing triplet quenching and maximizing TTA rate help lower J(TTA), and device efficiency is improved by weakening triplet quenching through blending two materials.

Novel Polycyclic Fused Amide Derivatives: Properties and Applications for Sky-blue Electroluminescent Devices

Guo-Xi Yang et al.

Summary: Two novel polycyclic fused amide units were combined with donors to generate four blue emitters with higher thermal stability and photoluminescence quantum yields. The intermolecular interactions in the materials effectively inhibited molecular rotation and allowed for blue-shifted emissions. A highly efficient sky-blue OLED device was achieved using these materials.

Spiral Donor Design Strategy for Blue Thermally Activated Delayed Fluorescence Emitters

Wei Li et al.

Summary: This study investigates the importance of energy level relationships between spiral donors and luminophores on the photoluminescent quantum yields of materials, and proposes the use of quantum chemistry simulations to accurately predict these relationships. The optimized molecular structure and energy alignment play a key role in enhancing the performance of TADF emitters. Ultimately, the TADF emitter DspiroS-TRZ achieved remarkable results with 99.9% PLQY and 38.4% EQE, the highest reported among all blue TADF emitters to date.

Anthracene-based fluorescent emitters toward superior-efficiency nondoped TTA-OLEDs with deep blue emission and low efficiency roll-off

Longjiang Xing et al.

Summary: Three new anthracene-based emitters were developed for deep blue OLEDs, demonstrating highly twisted molecular configurations that lead to deep-blue light emission by restricting pi-conjugation extension. The molecular packing manner may influence photoluminescence quantum yields in solid state and the singlet exciton harvested by triplet-triplet annihilation process. A nondoped device using DPF-AnCN as emitter achieved an external quantum efficiency of 7.1% with insignificant efficiency roll-off, approaching standard blue index.

The Critical Role of nπ* States in the Photophysics and Thermally Activated Delayed Fluorescence of Spiro Acridine-Anthracenone

Larissa Gomes Franca et al.

Summary: The molecular photophysics and TADF mechanism in Spiro compounds are unique due to the rigid orthogonal C-C bridging bond between donor and acceptor. The photophysics process is highly complex, with unprecedented multiple anti-Kasha emissions from different singlet states, while the TADF mechanism is critically controlled by local acceptor n pi* states.

Deep-blue high-efficiency triplet-triplet annihilation organic light-emitting diodes using donor- and acceptor-modified anthracene fluorescent emitters

C. Cao et al.

Summary: The study focused on the development of deep-blue organic electroluminescent emitters using the triplet-triplet annihilation (TTA) approach. By connecting a PPI donor and a BI acceptor via an anthracene (AN) bridge, a high-performance deep-blue TTA emitter, PPI-AN-BI, was obtained. Experimental and theoretical analysis showed that triplet pair transition and enhanced oscillator strength were key factors contributing to the high efficiency of the non-doped emitters.
