Conjugation-Modulated Excitonic Coupling Brightens Multiple Triplet Excited States

Tao Wang et al.

Summary: We discovered a general design principle for materials that exhibit multiple room-temperature phosphorescence (RTP) processes. By modulating the hybridization between donor and acceptor groups, we achieved multiple RTP processes in sp3 C-linked donor-acceptor compounds. However, in sp2 C-linked counterparts, only one locally excited triplet state phosphorescence was observed due to enhanced excitonic coupling. Our findings provide insights into the dynamics of higher-lying triplet excited states and offer a fundamental design principle for compounds with multiple RTP.

Quenching-Resistant Multiresonance TADF Emitter Realizes 40% External Quantum Efficiency in Narrowband Electroluminescence at High Doping Level

Pengcheng Jiang et al.

Summary: This study introduces a highly emissive molecule with enhanced quenching resistance by segregating the planar MR-TADF skeleton using two bulky carbazolyl units, which significantly improves the performance of corresponding devices with a maximum external quantum efficiency of 40.0% and a full width at half maximum of 25 nm. The steric effect of the bulky carbazolyl units largely removes the formation of detrimental excimers/aggregates, leading to an OLED example that can achieve narrow bandwidth and high EL efficiency surpassing 40% to date.

Thermally Activated and Aggregation-Regulated Excitonic Coupling Enable Emissive High-Lying Triplet Excitons

Tao Wang et al.

Summary: Room-temperature phosphorescence from higher-lying triplet excitons is reported in two naphthalene-based RTP luminophores. Cooling results in red-shifted phosphorescence emission from the lowest-lying triplet state. Excitonic coupling between different conformations of the compounds and aggregation-regulated excitonic coupling are observed.

Modeling of Multiresonant Thermally Activated Delayed Fluorescence Emitters-Properly Accounting for Electron Correlation Is Key!

David Hall et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates the robustness of the SCS-CC2 wavefunction-based method in predicting the energy difference between the lowest singlet and triplet excited states of MR-TADF materials, with an average deviation of 0.04 eV compared to experimental data. Compared to other methods, SCS-CC2 provides a better account of Coulomb correlation effects in describing the relevant electronic excited states. The importance of using wavefunction methods in relation to MR-TADF emitter design and associated photophysics is highlighted in this work.

Electron spin resonance resolves intermediate triplet states in delayed fluorescence

Bluebell H. Drummond et al.

Summary: The spin interconversion mechanism plays a crucial role in the efficiency of delayed fluorescence emitters, with the energy gap between local excitation and charge-transfer triplet states affecting the spin exchange process. As this energy separation decreases, the spin interconversion shifts from a direct mechanism to an indirect one involving intermediate states.
