Incorporating Conducting PEDOT between Graphene Films for Stable Capacitive Energy Storage

Xiaoyan Zhu et al.

Summary: A simple method for the preparation of poly(3,4-ethylene-dioxythiophene)/GO (PEDOT/GO) hybrid films by incorporating poly(3,4-ethylene-dioxythiophene):poly(4-styrenesulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS) between GO sheets is reported. The subsequent partial dissolution of PSS and reduction of PEDOT/GO film in hydrazine vapor converts GO to rGO and expands the film into a foam-like structure. This PEDOT/rGO film exhibits enhanced capacitive performance, higher rate capability, and superior cycling stability.

Perspectives of conducting polymer nanostructures for high-performance electrochemical capacitors

Manopriya Samtham et al.

Summary: The production of energy using renewable energy sources and its storage is receiving attention due to the depletion of fossil fuels and growing energy demands. Electrochemical capacitors with high specific capacitance, power density, cyclic stability, and fast charging-discharging rates have become important for energy storage. Many researchers have focused on developing one-dimensional nanostructure electrode materials to enhance the energy storage ability of electrochemical capacitors, with conducting polymer nanostructures being highly desirable. However, their low specific capacitance and poor cyclic stability can be overcome by developing conducting polymer-based composites.

Highly Deformable Graphene/Poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene):Poly(styrene Sulfonate) Hydrogel Composite Film for Stretchable Supercapacitors

Wen Chen et al.

Summary: Graphene films have high electrical conductivity and good mechanical strength, making them ideal for use in supercapacitors. However, their low elastic deformation ability limits their application in stretchable supercapacitors. By combining graphene with a conductive polymer hydrogel, the resulting composite film exhibits improved ductility and higher specific capacitance. A proof-of-concept planar supercapacitor using this graphene-conductive polymer hydrogel composite film as electrodes retains excellent electrochemical performance even under stretching conditions.

Recent Progress in Hole-Transporting Layers of Conventional Organic Solar Cells with p-i-n Structure

Xuning Zhang et al.

Summary: Organic solar cells (OSCs) have experienced rapid improvement in power conversion efficiency (PCE) due to advances in materials and device engineering. The choice of buffer layer materials for interface charge transport and collection is critical to optimize PCE. While hole transport layers (HTLs) have received less attention compared to electron transport layers (ETLs), the commercial material PEDOT:PSS has limitations for efficiency and stability enhancement. This review summarizes recent progress in HTL materials, including modifications to PEDOT:PSS and alternative materials based on polymers and inorganic oxides, and provides an outlook on the possibilities and challenges in this field.
