Analysis of the Infiltration and Water Storage Performance of Recycled Brick Mix Aggregates in Sponge City Construction

Bowen Qi et al.

Summary: With the increase of urban hardened roofs and pavements, sponge city construction has become an inevitable trend to address the serious damage to the rainwater cycle. The study on the infiltration and storage performance of recycled brick aggregate, as a highly absorbent material for permeable paving in sponge cities, is of great significance. The outcomes show that the particle size of recycled brick concrete aggregate is positively correlated with water storage capacity and has strong permeability and water storage properties, indicating great potential for application in sponge city construction.

The isotopes of precipitation have climate change signal in arid Central Asia

Guofeng Zhu et al.

Summary: Global climate change varies regionally, so it is important to analyze climate change in different regions using different indicators and methods. This study analyzed changes in isotopes in precipitation in Arid Central Asia (ACA) to verify the reliability of stable isotopes as indicators of climate change. The results showed a strong correlation between precipitation isotopes and temperature, indicating an increasing trend in ACA temperature during 1970-1998 and 2015-2021, and a decreasing trend during 1999-2014. The enrichment of stable precipitation isotopes reflected changes in westerly winds and monsoons in ACA. Stable isotopes, especially 818O, were found to be valid indicators of climate change.

Review of GPM IMERG performance: A global perspective

Rajani K. Pradhan et al.

Summary: IMERG products show variation in performance across different geographical locations and climatic conditions, but overall they can appropriately estimate and detect regional precipitation patterns, with room for improvement particularly in mountainous areas and winter precipitation. Despite limitations in reproducing precipitation intensity, each new version of IMERG demonstrates substantial improvement across almost every spatiotemporal scale and climate condition.

Statistical analysis of regional air temperature characteristics before and after dam construction

Ziyi Chen et al.

Summary: This paper focuses on the impact of mega-dam construction on regional climate, specifically analyzing the influence of Xiaolangdi Dam on the Yellow River and Three Gorges Dam on the Yangtze River. The results show that dam construction led to a decrease in temperature in the reservoir area and an increase in temperature in the downstream area. The rise in water level also caused a decrease in temperature in the reservoir area and reduced the temperature difference.

Experimental Study on Failure Model of Tailing Dam Overtopping under Heavy Rainfall

Guangjin Wang et al.

Summary: Unusual rainfall is the main cause of tailing dam failure. In this study, the process of breach extension and the overtopping dam-failure mechanism of an upstream tailing dam under full-scale rainfall conditions were investigated. The results showed that the height of the infiltration line at different positions of the dam body varied with the rainfall duration. The process of overtopping dam-failure involved gully erosion, formation of a multistepped small scarp, breach rapid expansion, formation of large scarp, and burst. The width and depth of the breach were positively correlated, with the widening rate being higher than the deepening rate.
