Soil variability mapping and delineation of site-specific management zones using fuzzy clustering analysis in a Mid-Himalayan Watershed, India

B. N. Shashikumar et al.

Summary: The spatial variability of soil nutrients in a mid-Himalayan watershed was investigated and four optimum soil management zones were delineated. Geostatistical analysis, principal component analysis (PCA), and fuzzy clustering analysis were used to identify significant differences in soil and terrain parameters among the management zones. The results provide guidance for farmers in implementing site-specific soil management.

MLCM: Multi-Label Confusion Matrix

Mohammadreza Heydarian et al.

Summary: In multi-label classification tasks, traditional confusion matrix is not applicable for performance assessment. Current assessment techniques calculate performance averages for evaluation, but suffer from ambiguity. To address this, we propose a method of creating multi-label confusion matrix based on problem categories and demonstrate its effectiveness through experiments.

Potential of functional analysis applied to Sentinel-2 time-series to assess relevant agronomic parameters at the within-field level in viticulture

Sergio Velez et al.

Summary: This study utilizes Sentinel-2 satellite imagery to extract relevant information from two vineyards in Spain. By employing dimensionality reduction techniques such as Principal Component Analysis (PCA) and Partial Least Square (PLS), the NDVI time-series are decomposed into multiple functional components. The results demonstrate the added value of considering the entire time-series compared to a single image, and establish correlations with seasonal phenology and management practices in the vineyards.

Smart-Map: An Open-Source QGIS Plugin for Digital Mapping Using Machine Learning Techniques and Ordinary Kriging

Gustavo Willam Pereira et al.

Summary: Machine learning algorithms have been used as an alternative to conventional methods in digital mapping of soil attributes, offering flexibility in using different layers of information. To address the difficulties faced by end users, a Smart-Map plugin was developed, incorporating Ordinary Kriging and Support Vector Machine algorithms, and selecting covariates based on spatial correlation. In a case study in Brazil, the performance of the Smart-Map plugin was evaluated using R-2 and RMSE, showing that Support Vector Machine outperformed Ordinary Kriging in predicting soil attributes.

Wheat yield estimation using remote sensing data based on machine learning approaches

Enhui Cheng et al.

Summary: Accurate prediction of winter wheat yield is important for farmers and international wheat trade. This study compares different data-driven approaches and finds that the LSTM model performs the best in predicting winter wheat yield. Hyperspectral data is more accurate than multispectral data, with the 10m resolution Sentinel-2 data achieving the highest accuracy. The study also highlights the superiority of the greenness vegetation index in predicting crop yields.

Mapping spatial variability of foliar nitrogen and carbon in Indian tropical moist deciduous sal (Shorea robusta) forest using machine learning algorithms and Sentinel-2 data

Vaishali Vasudeva et al.

Summary: This study mapped the spatial distribution of foliar Nitrogen and Carbon in a tropical moist deciduous sal forest using Sentinel-2 data and machine learning algorithms. The study established a strong relationship between Nitrogen and SWIR-1 band and NDRE, and between Carbon and SWIR-1 band along with various spectral vegetation indices. The results showed that Random Forest algorithm performed better than Artificial Neural Network and Support Vector Machine in explaining the variability in foliar Nitrogen and Carbon.
