Technologies for the Preservation of Cultural Heritage-A Systematic Review of the Literature

Maria Antonia Diaz Mendoza et al.

Summary: This study conducted a systematic literature review to explore the technological elements utilized in the preservation, promotion, and dissemination of cultural heritage from 2018 to 2022. A total of 146 articles were identified through databases search, and a quantitative and qualitative analysis was performed to investigate the type, topic, categorization, country, and language of the publications. The findings revealed that 70% of the articles employed technological approaches, with 3D digital technologies being the most frequently used (44%), followed by augmented reality or virtual reality (15%).

Reflectance Measurement Method Based on Sensor Fusion of Frame-Based Hyperspectral Imager and Time-of-Flight Depth Camera

Samuli Rahkonen et al.

Summary: In this research, a method for fusing data from hyperspectral camera and depth sensing camera is demonstrated. By calibrating and using registration algorithms, point clouds and hyperspectral data from different viewpoints can be successfully combined. The results suggest that changing emission angle has minimal effect on reflectance intensity and spectrum shapes.

Timely and Low-Cost Remote Sensing Practices for the Assessment of Landslide Activity in the Service of Hazard Management

Aggeliki Kyriou et al.

Summary: This study utilized UAV and TLS technology to collect multi-dated data for landslide monitoring. The results showed that the landslide remains active but progresses slowly. Point clouds from both UAV and TLS sensors can be effectively used for landslide monitoring, with TLS point clouds being denser and more suitable.

What Lies Beyond Sight? Applications of Ultraportable Hyperspectral Imaging (VIS-NIR) for Archaeological Fieldwork

Claudia Sciuto et al.

Summary: This paper discusses the use of a small ultraportable hyperspectral camera for archaeological fieldwork, its hardware, data processing workflows, and the utilization of spectral information. It highlights how hyperspectral imaging, as a non-destructive analytical technique, has been widely applied in archaeology to uncover hidden features underground and provides new perspectives for material analysis based on spectral mapping.

Characterizing the pigments and paints of prehistoric artists

Ines Domingo et al.

Summary: This paper provides a critical overview of discussions on the potential uses and characterization of pigments in prehistory, focusing on prehistoric rock art. Analytical approaches to pigments allow exploration of raw material procurement, transformation, and use strategies, shedding light on technological and socio-cultural practices of prehistoric artists and their changes over time and space. The paper also summarizes prehistoric artists' palette, techniques, and analytical strategies used to characterize pigments and paints in prehistoric rock art.
