Comparison of remote sensing evapotranspiration models: Consistency, merits, and pitfalls

Peng Bai

Summary: This study compared three widely used remote sensing ET models and found that the PML model performs the best on both site and basin scales, possibly due to its land-cover-based parameter configuration and consideration of soil evaporation and transpiration responses to soil water deficit.

Characteristics of Winter Wheat Evapotranspiration in Eastern China and Comparative Evaluation of Applicability of Different Reference Evapotranspiration Models

Hao He et al.

Summary: This study explored the evapotranspiration process in winter wheat fields and obtained methods for estimating evapotranspiration using actual field measurements and model simulations. The results showed that temperature difference, solar radiation, and temperature were the driving factors most affecting evapotranspiration in the humid region of eastern China. The Hargreaves-Samani (H-S) and FAO-56 Penman-Monteith (FAO-56 PM) models performed best in simulating evapotranspiration during key growth stages of winter wheat. These findings can contribute to improving water management for winter wheat in eastern China.

Environmental and Biophysical Effects of the Bowen Ratio over Typical Farmland Ecosystems in the Loess Plateau

Xueyuan Ren et al.

Summary: This study investigated the impact of eco-environmental factors on the Bowen ratio in semi-arid and semi-humid farmland ecosystems on the Loess Plateau. Results showed that different regions had different responses to environmental factors, with beta values influenced by factors such as vapor pressure deficit, temperature difference, precipitation, and soil moisture.

Does Climate Change Increase Crop Water Requirements of Winter Wheat and Summer Maize in the Lower Reaches of the Yellow River Basin?

Kun Jia et al.

Summary: With increasing water resources stress, this study investigates the water requirements of winter wheat and summer maize in the lower reaches of the Yellow River Basin from 1981 to 2019 and their response to climate change. The results show that the temperature has increased while sunshine duration, relative humidity, and wind speed have decreased. Crop water requirements exhibit a significant decreasing trend, with wind speed identified as the dominant factor.

Fahime Arabi Aliabad et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effect of foliar application of gypsum, sulfur, and NAX-95 on pistachio trees in a pistachio orchard in Iran. The results showed that gypsum was the most effective compound in reducing tree temperature and water requirement, leading to increased crop productivity.

Study on Spatial and Temporal Characteristics of Surface Albedo at the Northern Edge of the Badain Jaran Desert Based on C plus STNLFFM Model

Peng He et al.

Summary: In this study, MODIS and OLI data sources were used to calculate the surface albedo data of Guaizi Lake in 2016 using the STNLFFM and C model. The results showed that C + STNLFFM had a lower relative error compared to STNLFFM and MODIS surface albedo, improved the applicability of MODIS in winter, and better responded to short-term changes. The C + STNLFFM also enhanced the spatial differences in surface albedo over different underlying surfaces.

Application of a multiple model integration framework for mapping evapotranspiration with high spatial-temporal resolution in the Haihe River Basin, China

Yang Chen et al.

Summary: This study used the Bayesian model averaging method to simulate high-resolution evapotranspiration (ET) values in the Haihe River Basin (HRB) and found that the BMA ET values had higher accuracy and credibility compared to individual models. The BMA ET values showed a significant increasing trend and could be applied to various fields such as regional microclimate change, agricultural policy making, and water security.

Spatial and temporal characteristics of surface albedo in Badain Jaran Desert, China

Peng He et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that assimilating surface albedo from OLI into BSA in the Badain Jaran Desert results in higher accuracy and reveals seasonal differences in albedo, with highest values in winter and lowest in summer. The spatial distribution of albedo is affected by the number and spacing of sand dunes, showing increased structure similarity towards the outer areas of the desert.

Evapotranspiration Components Dynamic of Highland Barley Using PML ET Product in Tibet

Jilong Chen et al.

Summary: Highland barley is a crucial crop in Tibet, with its evapotranspiration components varying significantly with altitude, soil evaporation, and temperature. The seasonal variation follows a parabolic pattern, peaking in August. ET component changes are influenced by meteorological variables and management practices, while ET component ratios are more affected by environmental factors.

Summary: The study investigated the change mechanism and influencing factors of surface albedo over different underlying surfaces in the Badain Jaran Desert. Results indicated that surface roughness, lag effect in vegetation response, and other factors contribute to the complexity of surface albedo variations in the area.
