Performance and interaction of sodium silicate activated slag with lignosulfonate superplasticiser added at different mixing stages

Jun Ren et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the effect of adding lignosulfonate (LS) superplasticiser at different stages of mixing on the workability and rheological behavior of sodium silicate activated slag (SSAS) to address the incompatibility between superplasticiser and alkaline activator. Various tests were conducted to understand the interactions between LS and fresh SSAS. The results show that separate addition of LS and activator improves the minislump and its retention in SSAS, with prior addition of LS yielding better results. However, a nonlinear rheological behavior was observed in LS-superplasticised SSAS, requiring the use of the modified Bingham model for description.

A Comprehensive Review on the Ground Granulated Blast Furnace Slag (GGBS) in Concrete Production

Jawad Ahmad et al.

Summary: This study provides a review on the use and effectiveness of ground-granulated blast-furnace slag (GGBS) as an alternative to cement. The findings indicate that GGBS can improve the mechanical strength of concrete but reduce its flowability. Additionally, concrete containing GGBS cement shows superior durability. The optimum percentage of GGBS is a crucial aspect for achieving better performance.

Summary: The study examined the effects of mono and hybrid fibres on various properties of fly ash geopolymer mortar. It was found that steel fibres could increase compressive strength, while low-modulus fibres led to significant strength reduction. Multiple cracking and deflection hardening behaviors could be achieved in high sand to binder ratio fly ash geopolymer mortars by using steel fibres in mono or hybrid forms.
