Modification of Ramie Fiber via Impregnation with Low Viscosity Bio-Polyurethane Resins Derived from Lignin

Muhammad Adly Rahandi Lubis et al.

Summary: The aim of this study was to enhance the thermal and mechanical properties of ramie fiber through impregnation with low-viscosity lignin-based polyurethane (LPU) resins. The LPU resins were synthesized by dissolving lignin in 20% NaOH and adding polymeric 4,4-methane diphenyl diisocyanate (pMDI) with a mole ratio of 0.3 NCO/OH. Impregnation of ramie fiber with LPU resins led to the formation of urethane bonds, increasing thermal stability by an average of 6% and mechanical properties by an average of 100% compared to untreated fiber. The best results were obtained with LPU-ethyl acetate, with a residual weight of 22% and tensile strength of 648.7 MPa after 30 minutes of impregnation.

Synthesis of Green Adhesive with Tannin Extracted from Eucalyptus Bark for Potential Use in Wood Composites

Medjda Amari et al.

Summary: Recently, research on utilizing renewable plant resources to formulate adhesives has shown that tannins extracted from plants are rich in biomolecules, particularly the eucalyptus tannins extracted at 70 degrees Celsius exhibit excellent properties for adhesive formulation. The combination with hexamine results in adhesives with higher thermal stability and mechanical performance compared to traditional formulations.
