One-Pot Synthesis of Amphiphilic Biopolymers from Oxidized Alginate and Self-Assembly as a Carrier for Sustained Release of Hydrophobic Drugs

Zhaowen Liu et al.

Summary: In this study, an organic solvent-free, eco-friendly and efficient approach for the preparation of amphiphilic conjugates (Ugi-OSAOcT) was developed by grafting octylamine to oxidized sodium alginate. The conjugates self-assembled into stable and spherical micelles and successfully loaded the poorly water-soluble drug ibuprofen. The loaded micelles exhibited sustained and pH-responsive drug release behavior.

Preparation and potential applications of alginate oligosaccharides

Decheng Bi et al.

Summary: Alginate, a linear polymer from algae, has various applications in the food and nutraceutical industries. However, its low water solubility and high viscosity limit its potential applications. Alginate oligosaccharides (AOS) with low molecular weight have better water solubility and have gained attention for their potential use in foods and nutraceuticals. This review discusses the preparation, analysis, and potential applications of AOS.

Injectable shear-thinning sodium alginate hydrogels with sustained submucosal lift for endoscopic submucosal dissection

Juping Ma et al.

Summary: Endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) is an effective method for treating early gastrointestinal cancers. In this study, a dynamic injectable hydrogel with shear-thinning properties was developed for ESD surgery. The hydrogel demonstrated self-healing abilities and antioxidant activity, and resulted in higher submucosal elevation heights compared to commercial ESD solutions. These findings suggest that the hydrogel has the potential to assist in ESD surgery.

Summary: An all-in-one hydrogel (QOP) has been developed to treat diabetic wounds. QOP can achieve rapid hemostasis, neutralize inflammatory cytokines, eliminate bacteria, regulate oxidation state, promote cell adhesion and migration, and facilitate angiogenesis. The QOP dressing can be fully absorbed by the organism after achieving the desired therapeutic effects.

Functionalization of an Alginate-Based Material by Oxidation and Reductive Amination

Ronny G. Huamani-Palomino et al.

Summary: This research successfully synthesized a functional alginate-based material through oxidation and reductive amination processes, confirming the successful attachment of cysteine molecules to the alginate backbone. The preferential impact of guluronic acid residue over mannuronic acid residue in the functionalization process of alginate was observed.

Rheological properties of gelatine hydrogels affected by flow- and horizontally-induced cooling rates during 3D cryo-printing

Vanja Kokol et al.

Summary: Soft gelatine hydrogel, despite its potential in tissue engineering, faces challenges in 3D printing due to its low viscosity and poor resolution. A horizontally-induced cooling platform can accelerate the physical stabilization of printed deposits, enabling the creation of scaffolds with more precise porosities and geometries.
