Critical Role of Non-Halogenated Solvent Additives in Eco-Friendly and Efficient All-Polymer Solar Cells

Saeah Kim et al.

Summary: Organic solar cells (OSCs) with high power conversion efficiencies have been typically made using toxic halogenated solvents. Non-halogenated solvents have emerged as a potential alternative, but achieving optimal morphology has been challenging. In this study, we investigated the dependence of photovoltaic properties of all-polymer solar cells (APSCs) on various high-boiling-point non-halogenated additives. Our results showed that using an additive with an optimal boiling point can lead to better photovoltaic performance and favorable polymer blend morphology, contributing to the development of eco-friendly APSCs.

Device Modeling of Efficient PBDB-T:PZT-Based All-Polymer Solar Cell: Role of Band Alignment

Marwa S. Salem et al.

Summary: In this study, design suggestions for all-polymer solar cells are proposed using device simulation. The performance of a polymer solar cell made of a blend of PBDB-T and PZT as the photoactive film is investigated. By calibrating the simulation models with experimental data, the device parameters are confirmed and implemented in the SCAPS simulator. To increase the open circuit voltage, different hole transport layer (HTL) materials, such as CuI and P3HT, are explored. A double HTL structure is proposed to suppress the appearance of an S-curve in the current density-voltage (J-V) characteristic. Additionally, the cell shows promising performance under low light intensity, making it suitable for indoor applications. This simulation study contributes to the development of highly efficient all-polymer solar cells.
