The evolution of plant NLR immune receptors and downstream signal components

Yang Liu et al.

Summary: With the emergence of green plants one billion years ago, the NLR gene family originated and diverged into three subclasses. Two subclasses serve as major immune receptors in plants, while the third functions as a signal transfer component. This review provides a summary of the identification and evolution of NLR genes and downstream signal components, highlighting their ecological adaptation.

Release of tepary bean TARS-Tep 23 germplasm with broad abiotic stress tolerance and rust and common bacterial blight resistance

Timothy Porch et al.

Summary: Tepary bean is a drought and high ambient temperature tolerant crop with potential as an alternative pulse crop in hot and/or dry regions worldwide. TARS-Tep 23 is an improved germplasm with wide-ranging adaptation to tropical and temperate regions, resistance to bean rust and common bacterial blight, and short crop cycle, developed cooperatively by research institutions. Its use can potentially increase seed yields of this climate-resilient crop in production zones affected by various stresses.

Regulatory Mechanisms of the Resistance to Common Bacterial Blight Revealed by Transcriptomic Analysis in Common Bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.)

Penghui Yang et al.

Summary: Through transcriptomic analysis and WGCNA, 139 key genes related to resistance of common bean to Xanthomonas axonopodis pv. phaseoli were identified, including genes encoding resistance proteins, transcription factors, oxidoreductase proteins, and plant hormone signal transduction-related genes. These genes play important roles in the resistance to pathogen infection.

The Common Bean V Gene Encodes Flavonoid 3' 5' Hydroxylase: A Major Mutational Target for Flavonoid Diversity in Angiosperms

Phillip E. McClean et al.

Summary: The V gene in common bean plays a crucial role in controlling seed coat and flower color and flavonoid content. It encodes the enzyme F3'5'H, which is important for the expression of flavonoids. The V gene has evolved independently in two bean gene pools and has homologs in Viridiplantae.

GENESPACE tracks regions of interest and gene copy number variation across multiple genomes

John T. Lovell et al.

Summary: The development of multiple chromosome-scale reference genome sequences has provided a high-resolution view of molecular evolution patterns and processes. However, leveraging information across multiple genomes remains a challenge in eukaryotic systems. GENESPACE addresses these challenges by integrating conserved gene order and orthology. It offers a significant contribution to existing gene family and synteny programs, particularly in complex genomes.

Coding Mutations in Vacuolar Protein-Sorting 4 AAA+ ATPase Endosomal Sorting Complexes Required for Transport Protein Homologs Underlie bc-2 and New bc-4 Gene Conferring Resistance to Bean Common Mosaic Virus in Common Bean

Alvaro Soler-Garzon et al.

Summary: Bean common mosaic virus (BCMV) is a major disease in common bean, and host plant resistance is crucial. This study identified candidate genes and markers for the bc-2 gene and a new gene associated with BCMV resistance. Through GWAS and haplotype mapping, specific Vps4 AAA+ ATPase ESCRT proteins were identified as candidate genes for resistance. The findings enhance our understanding of host-virus interaction and will aid in breeding common beans for resistance to BCMV and related viruses.

Genome-Wide Association Study Reveals Genomic Regions Associated with Fusarium Wilt Resistance in Common Bean

Jean Fausto de Carvalho Paulino et al.

Summary: In this study, genomic regions associated with Fop resistance in common beans were identified using genome-wide association studies. Specific SNP markers on certain chromosomes were found to be associated with different aspects of resistance to two monosporic strains of Fop. Putative candidate genes related to disease resistance were also identified, indicating the potential for future genomic selection tools in managing Fusarium wilt in beans.

Nitrate-responsive NIN-like protein transcription factors perform unique and redundant roles in Arabidopsis

Mineko Konishi et al.

Summary: The study revealed that NLP transcription factors in Arabidopsis play a crucial role in regulating gene expression for nitrate uptake and utilization. Specifically, NLP6 to NLP8 are important in this process, with NLP2 and NLP7 mutants showing growth defects and impaired nitrate utilization. Complementation assays suggested differences in protein function between NLP2 and NLP7, indicating unique roles within the NLP family.

Genome-Wide Association Mapping of bc-1 and bc-u Reveals Candidate Genes and New Adjustments to the Host-Pathogen Interaction for Resistance to Bean Common Mosaic Necrosis Virus in Common Bean

Alvaro Soler-Garzon et al.

Summary: The study identified candidate genes associated with resistance to Bean common mosaic necrosis virus (BCMNV) and revealed significant peak regions corresponding to bc-1 and bc-u resistance gene loci. SNP markers for bc-1 and bc-u, as well as new markers for I and bc-3 genes, were found to be useful for genotyping and analyzing resistance genes underlying BCMNV phenotypes.
