Correlating the Interfacial Polar-Phase Structure to the Local Chemistry in Ferroelectric Polymer Nanocomposites by Combined Scanning Probe Microscopy

Jiajie Liang et al.

Summary: This study combines multi-mode scanning probe microscopy-based electrical characterization and nano-infrared spectroscopy to investigate the local structure-property correlation of the interface in ferroelectric polymer nanocomposites. The type of surface modifiers on the nanoparticles significantly affects the local polar-phase content and piezoelectric effect of the polymer matrix. The enhancement in properties is attributed to the formation of hydrogen bonds between the surface modifiers and the ferroelectric polymer.

High-performing polysulfate dielectrics for electrostatic energy under harsh conditions

He Li et al.

Summary: Designing high-capacity polymer dielectrics that can operate efficiently under harsh electrical conditions is challenging. However, polysulfates synthesized through SuFEx catalysis were found to be high-performing dielectric polymers that can overcome these challenges. Free-standing polysulfate thin films exhibit superior insulating properties and dielectric stability at high temperatures, which can be further improved with ultrathin oxide coatings. These advancements lead to electrostatic film capacitors with high breakdown strength and discharged energy density, outperforming current state-of-the-art dielectric materials.
