Transcriptome Analysis of Pepper-Phytophthora infestans Interaction Based on a Pipeline of a Simplified and Effective RNA-seq Analysis (PoRAS)

Junesung Lee et al.

Summary: Researchers have actively conducted research to identify resistance mechanisms and key factors for crop protection using plant-disease interaction transcripts. In this study, a simplified and effective RNA-seq analysis pipeline (PoRAS) was established and validated using data from pepper-phytophthora infestans interaction. The results showed that PoRAS is a useful tool for identifying key genetic factors from large amounts of RNA-seq data.

Ethylene-responsive factor ERF114 mediates fungal pathogen effector PevD1-induced disease resistance in Arabidopsis thaliana

Ze Li et al.

Summary: APETALA2/ethylene-responsive factor (AP2/ERF) family transcription factors play important roles in plant responses to various biotic and abiotic stresses. This study revealed that ERF114 is involved in mediating elicitor-induced disease resistance and regulates lignin and salicylic acid accumulation by activating PAL1 gene expression.

Comparative phytochemical profiling of paprika (Capsicum annuum L.) with different fruit shapes and colors

Youbin Kye et al.

Summary: The phytochemicals and taste components in paprika varieties with different colored and shaped fruit were analyzed, and their antioxidant and alpha-glucosidase inhibitory activity were evaluated. Conical type paprika contained more fructose and glucose, and showed higher antioxidant and alpha-glucosidase inhibitory activities. Brown colored paprika contained abundant carotenoids and chlorophylls.

Mining transcriptome data to identify genes and pathways related to lemon taste using supervised and unsupervised data learning methods

Zahra Zinati et al.

Summary: Identifying pivotal genes associated with citrus taste is crucial for developing new genotypes with favorable taste. Through attribute weighting algorithms, 170 discriminative probe sets were identified from lemon expression data, which significantly contributed to accurate discrimination between sweet and acidic lemon samples. The study highlights the importance and accuracy of these probe sets in predicting citrus taste.

Occurrence and Determination of Carotenoids and Polyphenols in Different Paprika Powders from Organic and Conventional Production

Alicja Ponder et al.

Summary: Paprika powder is a good source of carotenoids and polyphenols, which are beneficial in preventing diseases such as cancer and cardiovascular diseases. Organic production results in higher levels of bioactive compounds in paprika products. Analysis showed variations in concentrations of carotenoids and polyphenols in different types of paprika samples.

Identification of Key Genes Controlling Carotenoid Metabolism during Apricot Fruit Development by Integrating Metabolic Phenotypes and Gene Expression Profiles

Weiquan Zhou et al.

Summary: Different developmental periods and cultivars of apricot fruits showed significant differences in carotenoid contents, with β-carotene and (E/Z)-phytoene identified as key metabolites causing this variation. Twenty-five structural genes related to carotenoid biosynthesis were identified in the transcriptome data, with PSY, NCED1, and CCD4 pinpointed as key genes leading to significant differences in total carotenoid content. The results offer a new method for studying carotenoid synthesis and accumulation in apricot fruits.

Transcriptomic analysis of a wild and a cultivated varieties of Capsicum annuum over fruit development and ripening

Fernando G. Razo-Mendivil et al.

Summary: In this study, a transcriptomic analysis on wild and cultivated pepper varieties at two fruit maturation stages revealed that the two peppers showed similar gene expression patterns but with differences in genes related to shape, size, ethylene, and secondary metabolites biosynthesis. Domestication of chilli pepper could lead to specific changes in gene expression related to desired commercial traits such as shape, size, and secondary metabolite production.
