Analysis of land use land cover change using a new and existing spectral indices and its impact on normalized land surface temperature

Atul Kant Piyoosh et al.

Summary: A new spectral index NRUI(ms) has been proposed for assessing LULC changes in Dehradun, India using Landsat satellite data. The NRUI(ms) showed better separability compared to other indices for the fallow-urban class pair. Significant LULC changes were observed during the period 1991-2019, with unprecedented urban growth and conversion of vegetated areas into non-vegetated areas.

Remote Sensing and Geographic Information System Applications in Hydrocarbon Exploration: A Review

Sudip Kumar Saha

Summary: This paper provides an overview of the current status and future prospects of satellite remote sensing (RS) and geographic information system (GIS) applications in hydrocarbon exploration. The integration of multi-spectral RS data with ground-based geophysical, geochemical, and well log data using GIS has been successfully used for assessing hydrocarbon favorable areas and detecting geological features. Different RS techniques, such as hyperspectral RS, polarimetric microwave SAR, and altimetry, have also shown potential for exploring petroleum resources. The use of GIS aids in the identification of potential hydrocarbon areas by integrating RS-derived geological and vegetation anomalies with ground data.

An integrated ASTER-based approach for mapping carbonatite and iron oxide-apatite deposits

Cheikh-Elwali Malainine et al.

Summary: A mapping approach utilizing ASTER data, band rationing, principal component analysis, and minimum noise fraction techniques successfully delineated targeted rocks in the investigated area, showing great potential for mapping carbonatites and iron oxide-apatite ore outcrops. Validation through field observations and in-situ geochemical analysis ensured the accuracy of the results, which were further improved through supervised classification using field data as training data.

Improving Land Cover Classification Using Genetic Programming for Feature Construction

Joao E. Batista et al.

Summary: Genetic Programming (GP) is a powerful machine learning algorithm that can produce readable white-box models. In this work, the M3GP algorithm is used to create hyperfeatures from satellite bands in order to improve the classification of land cover types. The addition of evolved hyperfeatures results in better performance of ML algorithms in multiclass classifications.

Integrative 3D Geological Modeling Derived from SWIR Hyperspectral Imaging Techniques and UAV-Based 3D Model for Carbonate Rocks

Huy Hoa Huynh et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates an integrative 3D model of SWIR hyperspectral mapping and UAV-based DEM for carbonate rock outcrops. The spectral indices derived from SWIR hyperspectral images showed high accuracy in distinguishing limestone and dolostone, providing better applicability for real world cases. The integrative 3D geological model developed by co-registration between hyperspectral map and UAV-based DEM revealed additional geological information of the outcrop, such as thickness, slope, and rock classification.
