Imaging crustal features and Moho depths through enhancements and inversion of gravity data from the Philippine island arc system

Mel Anthony A. Casulla et al.

Summary: The gravity studies of the Philippine archipelago provide important insights into its regional geology and tectonics. By analyzing high-resolution isostatic anomaly and free-air anomaly digital grids, gravity maps were used to identify prominent geologic features, including sedimentary basins, ophiolitic basement rocks, and metamorphic belts. The gravity data also revealed differences in deep gravity signatures, distinguishing regions with continental affinity from those with oceanic affinity. Additionally, three-dimensional gravity inversion and power spectrum analysis were employed to model subsurface density contrasts and estimate depths of important geological boundaries.

A full interpretation applying a metaheuristic particle swarm for gravity data of an active mud diapir, SW Taiwan

Khalid S. Essa et al.

Summary: Interpreting gravity anomalies plays a crucial role in understanding the underground geological structures. In this study, a particle optimization algorithm was used to interpret gravity response profiles for mud diapirs. The algorithm was tested and validated with numerical examples and a real case study from Taiwan. The results showed the effectiveness and stability of the algorithm, even in the presence of noise. The interpretation results were consistent with available geological and borehole information and previous studies.

The mantle temperature corrected gravimetric Moho using SGG-UGM-2 gravity data: An evidence of asymmetric distribution of thin and thick crust along the Central Indian Ridge (3°S-16°S)

Soumyashree Debasis Sahoo et al.

Summary: This study maps the crustal structure of the Central Indian Ridge using free-air gravity data, highlighting the importance of mantle temperature correction and other corrections in gravity data analysis. It discusses the influence of mantle temperature correction on Moho determination, and presents the calculated Moho depths using different methods. The study also analyzes the compensation characteristics and crustal distribution based on the inversion and isostatic-based Moho models, revealing variations in thickness and patterns around the ridge axis. It further investigates the relationship between crustal thickness and features such as fracture zones and oceanic core complexes.

Crustal structure and Moho topography of the southern part (18° S-25° S) of Central Indian Ridge using high-resolution EIGEN6C4 global gravity model data

Soumyashree Debasis Sahoo et al.

Summary: The study focuses on mapping crustal structure over the southern part of the Central Indian Ridge using EIGEN6C4 Bouguer gravity data and Radial Average Power Spectrum technique. Different methods were used to estimate Moho depths and crustal thickness, with observations revealing variations in crustal types and thicknesses.
