Deactivating attachment strategies associate with early processing of facial emotion and familiarity in middle childhood: an ERP study

Melanie Kungl et al.

Summary: Neurophysiological evidence suggests a link between attachment and the neural processing of emotion expressions. This study examines this relationship in middle childhood and investigates the impact of facial familiarity. The results show that attachment deactivation is associated with increased vigilance towards angry faces, while no effect of hyperactivation is found.

Attachment styles and happiness in the elderly: the mediating role of reminiscence styles

Khodamorad Momeni et al.

Summary: The current study examines the relationship between attachment styles and happiness in the elderly, mediated by reminiscence styles. The results indicate that secure attachment style is positively related to positive reminiscence and negatively related to negative reminiscence. On the other hand, avoidant and ambivalent attachment styles show the opposite pattern. Additionally, secure attachment style is positively associated with happiness, while avoidant and ambivalent attachment styles are negatively associated with happiness. Gender and age do not moderate these relationships. Attachment styles are related to happiness through both positive and negative reminiscence.

Anxious Personality Traits: Perspectives from Basic Emotions and Neurotransmitters

Jie Dong et al.

Summary: This study provides a review of the development of personality theories and emotional dimensional theory, exploring the relationship between them and the neural mechanisms involved. The results suggest a correlation between personality traits and emotions, both of which are influenced by monoamine neurotransmitters.

Monoamine Neurotransmitters Control Basic Emotions and Affect Major Depressive Disorders

Yao Jiang et al.

Summary: This study reviews the advancements in monoamine neurotransmitters in the field of Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) and their impact on new pathways such as inflammation, oxidative stress, neurotrophins, and neurogenesis. The monoamine hypothesis is extended to basic emotions, with dopamine, norepinephrine, and serotonin playing different roles. The paper also briefly discusses the potential of monoamine neurotransmitters as a therapeutic approach for MDD, along with their limited clinical efficacy, side effects, and delayed onset of action.

The Relationship Between 5-Hydroxytryptamine and Its Metabolite Changes With Post-stroke Depression

Simeng Gu et al.

Summary: Post-stroke depression is a common and serious consequence of stroke, but many aspects related to it are still unclear. The monoamine hypothesis suggests that three monoamines play a key role in depression, and current antidepressants target these monoamines for the treatment of post-stroke depression. Recent studies have also shown potential effects of monoamine-related emotional intervention in the treatment and prevention of post-stroke depression.

Neurotransmitters and Electrophysiological Changes Might Work as Biomarkers for Diagnosing Affective Disorders

Fei Liang et al.

Summary: Affective disorders are the leading causes of human disability worldwide. Recent studies suggest that human emotions are developed from basic emotions, such as joy, fear, and disgust, which are influenced by different neurotransmitters. Anger and sadness are considered secondary emotions that develop from prototypical emotions.

The Aversion Function of the Limbic Dopaminergic Neurons and Their Roles in Functional Neurological Disorders

Zhengming He et al.

Summary: Freudian theory of conversion suggests that internal conflicts, especially related to sex drive, may lead to symptoms of functional neurological disorders. Dopaminergic neurons in the limbic areas may play a key role in switching rewarding reactions to aversive reactions during internal conflicts. Studies have shown the involvement of neural pathways and limbic regions in processing aversion, with potential implications for addictive behavior, depression treatment, and FND therapy.

Individuals with Major Depressive Disorder Report High Scores of Insecure-Avoidant and Insecure-Anxious Attachment Styles, Dissociative Identity Symptoms, and Adult Traumatic Events

Sanobar Golshani et al.

Summary: The study explored the associations between attachment styles, dissociation dimensions, and childhood/adult traumatic events among individuals with major depressive disorder (MDD). Findings indicated a higher prevalence of insecure attachment styles among MDD patients, with dissociation symptoms being associated with adult traumatic events. Anxious attachment styles were linked to higher dissociation scores.
