D-Lactic acid production from Cistus ladanifer residues: Co-fermentation of pentoses and hexoses by Escherichia coli JU15

Summary: In this study, glucan-rich solids and xylose-rich hydrolysates from Cistus ladanifer distillery residues were used for D-lactic acid production. The hydrolysates were subjected to post-hydrolysis under optimized conditions, and subsequent detoxification procedures were performed. The results showed that both hemicellulose- and cellulose-derived sugars can efficiently be used as carbon sources for D-lactic acid production. The study provides insights into optimizing the production of D-lactic acid from distillery residues.

Delignification of Cistus ladanifer Biomass by Organosolv and Alkali Processes

Summary: The study evaluated the production of cellulose enriched solids and lignin-derived compounds from Cistus ladanifer residues after steam distillation for essential oil production. The highest delignification and enzymatic saccharification were achieved with the ASP process, while the AGO process also showed high delignification and hydrolysis yields. The residual lignin in the delignified solids were enriched in G- and H-units, with S-units being preferentially removed.
