Vegetation and Topographic Factors Affecting SOM, SOC, and N Contents in a Mountainous Watershed in North China

Xiangrong Lv et al.

Summary: This study aimed to identify the main environmental factors affecting soil pH, SOM, SOC, TN, and AHN in mountainous areas of Beijing. The results showed that altitude was the primary factor influencing these soil properties, and there were also correlations with vegetation and topographic factors.

Coupled Relationship between Soil Physicochemical Properties and Plant Diversity in the Process of Vegetation Restoration

Yan Zhao et al.

Summary: An in-depth exploration of plant-soil interactions can enhance our understanding of forest ecosystem succession and evolution. Through investigating species diversity and soil physicochemical properties, it was found that the soil nutrient content decreased while the plant diversity index remained relatively stable. Tree and herb species diversity were closely related to surface soil, while shrub diversity was more influenced by the middle soil layer. This study provides insights for vegetation restoration management in forest ecosystems.

Functional Diversity and Its Influencing Factors in a Subtropical Forest Community in China

Lin Li et al.

Summary: Functional diversity is crucial for the connection between ecosystem functions and biodiversity, and its understanding is important for community diversity conservation strategies. In this study, a subtropical forest community in China was investigated, and functional diversity indices were calculated based on functional traits of plant species. The results showed significant differences in functional diversity and species diversity indices based on plant habit, as well as correlations among different functional richness and divergence indices. Altitude and other environmental factors also influenced the functional diversity of the community. Soil total phosphorus was identified as the most critical environmental factor. These findings contribute to our understanding of functional diversity in subtropical forests and provide insights for biodiversity conservation in the region.

Effects of plant species on soil quality in natural and planted areas of a forest park in northern Iran

Misagh Parhizkar et al.

Summary: The study found that soils with natural trees exhibit higher root weight density, pH, and organic carbon compared to reforested sites. These differences lead to higher nutrient contents, microbial respiration, aggregate stability, and water retention in soils with natural trees. Therefore, planted species may result in an overall lower quality of soils compared to natural forest.

Plant diversity and species turnover co-regulate soil nitrogen and phosphorus availability in Dinghushan forests, southern China

Xujun Liu et al.

Summary: The study reveals that plant diversity is related to soil nitrogen, phosphorus concentrations, while species turnover is negatively correlated with soil phosphorus content and positively correlated with nitrogen and available nitrogen. The results support the hypothesis that plant diversity and species turnover influence soil nitrogen and phosphorus availability by affecting forest community growth, litter quantity and quality, and soil physical and chemical properties.

Patterns and drivers of carbon, nitrogen and phosphorus stoichiometry in Southern China's grasslands

Mei Wang et al.

Summary: Spatial patterns of vegetation and soil C, N, and P concentrations in grasslands of southern China varied among different vegetation types, with climate, soil nutrients, and vegetation type playing important roles in determining these patterns. The shifts in nutrient ratios among different vegetation types suggest that future climate change and anthropogenic activities could further affect nutrient ratios and biogeochemical cycles in grassland ecosystems.
