Soil aggregate stability and its response to overland flow in successive Eucalyptus plantations in subtropical China

Jinyue Wang et al.

Summary: The study revealed that with successive planting of Eucalyptus, the soil bulk density increased, while the saturated water content, porosity, and organic matter content decreased. This led to a decrease in soil aggregate stability and an increased susceptibility to erosion.

Effects of enrichmemt planting with native tree species on bacterial community structure and potential impact on Eucalyptus plantations in southern China

Summary: This study investigates the impacts of introducing non-legume native tree species on soil nutrients and bacterial community structure. The results show that converting monoculture Eucalyptus plantations into mixed plantations can reduce soil nutrient depletion and enhance the ecological function of soil microorganisms.

Differences in leaf traits of Spartina alterniflora between native and invaded habitats: Implication for evolution of alien species competitive ability increase

Wenwen Liu et al.

Summary: This study compares the leaf functional traits and latitudinal patterns of invasive and native Spartina alterniflora plants. It found that the leaf traits of invasive S. alterniflora had pre-adaptation and high phenotypic plasticity, which contributed to its successful invasion. The escape from natural enemies also played an important role.

Spatial distribution and dynamic change monitoring of Eucalyptus plantations in China during 1994-2013

Wei Chen et al.

Summary: The study analyzed the dynamics of Eucalyptus plantation distribution in China using spatial analysis, geostatistical methods, and field survey data. It found that the area of Eucalyptus plantations in China has been increasing constantly due to the increase in newly planted areas and decrease in original plantation areas. The productivity of Eucalyptus plantations was found to be significantly positively correlated with temperature and rainfall, but negatively correlated with elevation.

Intraspecific trait variation and reversals of trait strategies across key climate gradients in native Hawaiian plants and non-native invaders

Andrea C. Westerband et al.

Summary: Our study in Hawaii revealed significant differences in resource acquisition traits between natives and invasives across most climate gradients, with invasives generally more resource acquisitive. However, certain conditions exhibited trait convergence and rank reversal, with natives being more resource acquisitive. Additionally, intraspecific trait variation was found to be higher in invasives, especially in water loss and photosynthesis, while species accounted for more trait variation in invasives compared to climate. Incorporating climate-driven trait variation improved models comparing natives and invasives, with ITV in invasives strongly influenced by spatial moisture heterogeneity and in natives by solar energy.

The characteristics of the complete chloroplast genome for Eucalyptus robusta (Myrtaceae)

Yisen Gao et al.

Summary: Eucalyptus robusta, a large tree of Myrtaceae, is mainly found in Southeast provinces of China and Southeast Asian countries. The complete chloroplast genome of E. robusta is 160,201 bp in length, containing 128 genes with an overall GC content of 36.86%, and it is closest to Eucalyptus globulus in phylogenetic analysis.
