Variation of wood color and chemical composition in the stem cross-section of oak (Quercus spp.) trees, with special attention to the sapwood-heartwood transition zone

Mohamed Traore et al.

Summary: This study investigates the transition zone in oak wood through color parameters and molecular structure analysis. The results show significant differences between the transition zone, sapwood, and heartwood in terms of color and chemical composition, which may be related to lignification and storage of polysaccharide compounds.

FTIR spectroscopy for determination of the raw materials used in wood pellet production

Giuseppe Toscano et al.

Summary: This research investigated the possibility of distinguishing pellet wood fuels using infrared spectroscopy, specifically ATR-FTIR. Through cluster analysis techniques applied to spectroscopic analyzer data, it was found that ATR-FTIR results can provide information on the type of wood pellets and the materials used in their production.

Climate-growth relationships of Daniellia oliveri (Rolfe) Hutch. & Dalziel in the Sudanian zone of Mali, West Africa

Kapoury Sanogo et al.

Summary: This study analyzed tree rings of Daniellia oliveri and found a significant relationship between tree-ring width and annual rainfall, particularly during the wet season. These findings suggest that D. oliveri can be used for dendrochronological studies relevant to ecosystem management and restoration in the Sudanian zone of West Africa.

An Integrated Similarity Analysis of Anatomical and Physical Wood Properties of Tropical Species from India, Mozambique, and East Timor

Fernanda Bessa et al.

Summary: This study investigated the wood anatomy and physical properties of 98 tropical wood species from India, Mozambique, and East Timor, and found that they share similar properties. Wood density, ray and vessel characteristics, as well as wood moisture and shrinkage properties, were the main factors contributing to the variability of these species. The study also identified alternative species for the CITES-listed species.

WOOD PROPERTIES OF NINE ACETYLATED TROPICAL HARDWOODS FROM FAST-GROWTH PLANTATIONS IN COSTA RICA

Roger Moya et al.

Summary: The effect of acetylation on tropical hardwoods depends on their permeability levels. For species with a WPG over 10%, acetylation can improve wetting rate, hygroscopic stability, and resistance to biological attack, while species with a WPG under 5% are less affected by acetylation treatment.
