Summary: The chemical composition and biological capacities of Andean blueberries vary with ripeness stages and altitudes. Polyphenols are the main compounds in early ripeness stage and contribute to antioxidant capacity and inhibition of bacterial growth. As the berries ripen, the accumulation of ascorbic acid, free amino acids, and anthocyanins increases, which are the main bioactive compounds in ripe berries. Environmental conditions at high altitudes have a positive influence. The wild Andean blueberry has high functional value.

Summary: Different allocation patterns in plantations have significant effects on soil elements, microorganisms, extracellular enzymes, and their stoichiometric characteristics. The Z. planispinum + L. japonica plantation showed the best performance. Plantation type had a greater impact on stoichiometry than soil depth. Microbial biomass (MB) stability was more reliable than soil nutrient content in assessing ecosystem nutrient constraints.

Soil Properties of Different Planting Combinations of Zanthoxylum planispinum var. dintanensis Plantations and Their Effect on Stoichiometry

Summary: This study examined the soil quality and its effect on stoichiometry in plantations with different planting patterns of Zanthoxylum planispinum. The results showed that soil water content significantly limited the preferred planting combination of Z. planispinum with Lonicera japonica. Nutrient forms, soil water content, and pH had significant effects on nutrient transformation and cycling. Total Ca and total Mg contributed relatively high to stoichiometry, while the effect of soil quality index (SQI) was not significant. Microbial stoichiometry ratio was mainly influenced by microbial biomass phosphorus, indicating strong internal stability of microorganisms. Strong interactions among soil factors affected elemental geochemical processes. The regulatory effects of different soil factors on stoichiometry should be emphasized.
