Structures and Supramolecular Properties of Inclusion Complexes of Anthracene-Triptycene Nanocages with Fullerene Guests and Their Dynamic Motion as Molecular Gyroscopes

Takuji Mitani et al.

Summary: Three derivatives of macrocyclic cage compounds consisting of diarylanthracene and triptycene units were synthesized. These nanocages formed host-guest complexes with C-60 and other fullerene guests as confirmed by H-1 NMR and fluorescence spectroscopy. The complexation of C-60 with the nanocages was further characterized by X-ray diffraction analysis, which showed multipoint CH center dot center dot center dot pi interactions between the guest and the host.

P-Doped graphene-C60 nanocomposite: a donor-acceptor complex with a P-C dative bond

Rabindranath Lo et al.

Summary: Phosphorous-doped graphene can form a covalent dative bond with the C-60 molecule, while C-60 on graphene and N-doped graphene surfaces can only form vdW complexes. A significant amount of charge transfer from the P-Gr surface to C-60 has been observed, and this complex formation may enhance the optical limiting response. The stability of the P-C dative bond has been evaluated using DFT-D molecular dynamics simulations at 300 K for 10 ps.

Understanding the Nature and Strength of Noncovalent Face-to-Face Arene-Fullerene Interactions

Summary: In this study, a fullerene-based torsion balance was used as a model system to quantify noncovalent interactions between arenes and the fullerene surface. The folding equilibrium was analyzed to measure the contributions of different factors to the interactions.

The Existence of a N→C Dative Bond in the C60-Piperidine Complex

Maximilian Lamanec et al.

Summary: The interaction between carbon allotropes and piperidine involves unique N->C dative/covalent bonds, which are detected only in complexes of fullerenes with piperidine. The non-planar structure and presence of five-member rings in carbon allotropes are key factors for the formation of this type of bond. Thermodynamics calculations, molecular dynamics simulations, and NMR and FTIR spectroscopy results help explain the specific interactions and provide insights for controlled organic functionalization.

Complexation of an Anthracene-Triptycene Nanocage Host with Fullerene Guests through CH...π Contacts

Kazuki Kajiyama et al.

Summary: A bicyclic anthracene macrocycle containing two triptycene units was synthesized and formed inclusion complexes with C-60 or C-70 guests. The association constants were determined by fluorescence titration method, showing strong affinity and high selectivity towards C-70. DFT calculations revealed the inclusion of guest molecules in the cavity with several CH...pi contacts.
