Systematic review of economic evaluations for internet- and mobile-based interventions for mental health problems

Fanny Kaehlke et al.

Summary: Internet and mobile-based interventions (IMIs) have the potential to be cost-effective for mental disorders, particularly in depression and anxiety. Most evaluations had good methodological quality, although some bias risks were present. Heterogeneity across studies was high due to factors such as different costing methods, designs, comparison groups, and outcomes used.

Summary: The Global Burden of Diseases Study in 2019 showed that mental disorders remained among the top ten leading causes of burden worldwide, with no reduction in burden since 1990. Impact of a Self-Guided, eHealth Program Targeting Weight Loss and Depression in Men: A Randomized Trial

Myles D. Young et al.

Summary: The study showed that a self-guided, eHealth program combining weight loss advice with mental health support was effective in reducing weight and depressive symptoms in men with overweight or obesity and low mood, with sustained improvements observed at 6 months. Integrated interventions targeting physical and mental health may be an effective strategy to engage and support this population.

Global trends in the prevalence and incidence of depression:a systematic review and meta-analysis

Dario Moreno-Agostino et al.

Summary: Evidence suggests that there is an increasing trend in the likelihood of experiencing depression over time in the general population, with no significant impact from factors such as gender, age, and type of prevalence. Moreover, the high heterogeneity across studies was not explained by any of the design variables considered, and no evidence for publication bias was found.

The Economic Burden of Adults with Major Depressive Disorder in the United States (2010 and 2018)

Paul E. Greenberg et al.

Summary: The number of US adults with major depressive disorder (MDD) increased by 12.9% between 2010 and 2018, resulting in a 37.9% increase in the economic burden. The largest growth in costs was observed in workplace costs. Despite the overall increase in the number of MDD patients, the direct cost per individual decreased, and the proportion of treated patients remained stable, indicating unmet treatment needs. Further research into MDD treatment services is warranted.
