Elucidating gut microbiota and metabolite patterns shaped by goat milk-based infant formula feeding in mice colonized by healthy infant feces

Qingxue Chen et al.

Summary: The study examined the differences in gut microbiota and metabolism regulation between cow milk-based, goat milk-based, mix milk-based infant formulas and pasteurized human milk. The results showed that goat milk-based formula selectively increased the abundance of specific bacteria in the gut. Metabolomics analysis revealed emphasis on certain metabolic pathways in goat milk-based formula. There was also a deficiency of certain bacteria in all formula-fed infants compared to those fed with pasteurized human milk. This study provides insights into the improvement and application of goat milk-based infant formulas in terms of intestinal microecology.

Cow's milk αS1-casein is more sensitizing than goat's milk αS1-casein in a mouse model

Kai Zhang et al.

Summary: This study aimed to compare the sensitization of alpha(S1)-CN in cow and goat's milk in a mouse model. The results showed that cow's milk alpha(S1)-CN had higher allergenicity than goat's milk alpha(S1)-CN and the sensitization of cow's milk alpha(S1)-CN damaged the intestinal barrier of mice and resulted in an increase of IFN-gamma. Additionally, mice allergic to cow's milk alpha(S1)-CN were less sensitized to goat's milk alpha(S1)-CN.
