Efficacy of non-pharmacological interventions on depressive symptoms in patients with Parkinson's disease: a study protocol for a systematic review and network meta-analysis

Advances in the Pharmacological and Non-pharmacological Management of Non-motor Symptoms in Parkinson's Disease: An Update Since 2017

Summary: This study aimed to provide an updated review on advances in pharmacological, non-pharmacological, and exercise-based interventions for non-motor symptoms (NMS) in Parkinson's disease (PD). The study found that since 2017, new strategies for managing NMS have emerged, such as the use of droxidopa for orthostatic hypotension, various dopaminergic treatment options for insomnia, and a range of non-pharmacological and exercise-based interventions for cognitive and neuropsychiatric symptoms, pain, and insomnia and excessive sleepiness. The conclusion is that targeted non-pharmacological treatments and other NMS management options may have a significant beneficial effect on the quality of life and should be considered in the treatment pathways of PD.

The results showed that resistance training (RT), endurance training (ET), and other intensive exercise modalities (OITM) are safe, feasible, and beneficial strategies for rehabilitation in PD, with RT and ET showing solid effects.

Effect of Physical Activity on Depression in Patients with Parkinson's Disease: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

Electroconvulsive Therapy for Parkinson's Disease: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

Correlation between depression and quality of life in patients with Parkinson's disease

Summary: This study found that PD patients with depression had significantly higher scores in all domains of PDQ-39 compared to those without depression. Patients in the depression group had longer disease duration, higher UPDRS-III scores, and higher H-Y stage levels. Various factors including age, disease duration, UPDRS-III, H-Y stage, HAMD score may independently affect PDQ-39SI in PD patients, with HAMD having the greatest impact.
