Demoralization during the Italian quarantine due to 2019 coronavirus disease pandemic: prevalence and association with psychological well-being and coping strategies

Rossana Botto et al.

Summary: This study aims to investigate demoralization among Italian citizens during the COVID-19 quarantine and explore its associations with psychological well-being, coping strategies, socio-demographic characteristics, and COVID-19-related factors. The findings suggest that demoralization is associated with depressed mood, general health, coping strategies, and certain socio-demographic characteristics. Specifically, females, older individuals without children, and those not working during quarantine reported higher levels of demoralization.

Variability and stability of coping styles among breast cancer survivors: A prospective study

Inger Schou-Bredal et al.

Summary: The study found that anxiety and depression were strongly correlated with helplessness/hopelessness and anxious preoccupation coping styles, with a predominant coping style being positive attitude. Some coping styles remained stable at the group level, but individual stability was not observed. Receiving chemotherapy and experiencing comorbidities were predictors for changes in coping styles, while maladaptive coping was not associated with disease-free survival.

Depression accelerates gastric cancer invasion and metastasis by inducing a neuroendocrine phenotype via the catecholamine/β2-AR/MACC1 axis

Changqie Pan et al.

Summary: Depression is a common comorbid disease of gastric cancer patients, often accompanied by elevated plasma catecholamine levels. This study found that catecholamines could induce the neuroendocrine phenotypes of gastric cancer cells, leading to accelerated invasion and metastasis, and the process could be reversed by beta(2)-AR antagonist or MACC1 silencing, offering potential therapeutic strategies for improving outcomes in GC patients with depression.
