Malaria care-seeking and treatment ideation among gold miners in Guyana

Bolanle Olapeju et al.

Summary: This study explores the relationship between gold miners' malaria-related ideation and the adoption of malaria care-seeking and treatment behaviours. The findings suggest that miners' ideation is associated with their care-seeking and treatment behaviours for malaria. The study results are of great importance for improving miners' care-seeking ideation and enhancing the effectiveness of malaria prevention and control.

The Emerging Threat of Plasmodium knowlesi Malaria Infection: A Concept Paper on the Vulnerable Factors in Human

Nurul Athirah Naserrudin et al.

Summary: In recent decades, there has been an increase in the number of detected cases of Plasmodium knowlesi malaria in South-East Asia. This study aims to integrate vulnerability factors to P. knowlesi malaria infection and found that sociodemographic, socioeconomic, environmental, social context, belief, and human behaviour factors influence the exposure to P. knowlesi malaria. However, these factors are often discussed separately in existing studies, and it is suggested to explore them collectively from multiple perspectives for a deeper understanding of vulnerability factors.

Reimagining zoonotic malaria control in communities exposed to Plasmodium knowlesi infection

Nurul Athirah Naserrudin et al.

Summary: This paper discusses opportunities to improve P. knowlesi malaria control by understanding the challenges faced by communities at risk and increasing community engagement and ownership of control measures. The paper also highlights how the concept of reimagining malaria can be adapted to zoonotic malaria control measures.

A Delphi study to explore and gain consensus regarding the most important barriers and facilitators affecting physiotherapist and pharmacist non-medical prescribing

Emma Graham-Clarke et al.

Summary: This study investigated factors affecting physiotherapist and pharmacist non-medical prescribers through a three-round Delphi study, revealing medical support and improved patient care as the most important factors. Differences were noted between physiotherapist and pharmacist prescribers in terms of prescribing influences, with pharmacists ranking team working higher than physiotherapists, possibly due to the variety of practice areas and relative newness of physiotherapy prescribing.

A comparison of the clinical, laboratory and epidemiological features of two divergent subpopulations of Plasmodium knowlesi

Ting Huey Hu et al.

Summary: Plasmodium knowlesi, a simian malaria parasite, has two genetically distinct subpopulations in Malaysian Borneo associated with different types of macaques. A study found no significant differences in clinical and epidemiological features between the two subpopulations, and both can cause a wide spectrum of malaria disease with potentially life-threatening complications.

Environmental and spatial risk factors for the larval habitats of Plasmodium knowlesi vectors in Sabah, Malaysian Borneo

Isabel Byrne et al.

Summary: The study found that land-use changes and topography influence the suitability of larval habitats for malaria vectors, potentially explaining the link between P. knowlesi incidence and deforestation. Predictive maps and identification of influential spatial scales may help target vector control interventions effectively.
