Summary: In recent years, there has been an evolving use of contraception among women, not only for pregnancy prevention but also for menstruation management and personal agency. However, many women face difficulties in addressing their contraceptive needs and lack desired information from healthcare providers and others. This research highlights the communicative process of women's understanding of contraceptive side effects, where anecdotal evidence is often treated as medical fact and healthcare providers are viewed as ineffective in relaying and addressing information about contraception. In the absence of satisfactory healthcare interactions, women seek information elsewhere to make their contraceptive choices.

Perceived Ineffectiveness of Pharmacological Treatments for Dysmenorrhea

Summary: The study found that a significant percentage of women perceived common pharmacological treatments for dysmenorrhea as ineffective, especially nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, acetaminophen, and combined oral contraceptive pills. Factors associated with treatment ineffectiveness included symptom-based phenotypes, clinical factors, and psychobehavioral characteristics. Future research should explore if symptom-based phenotypes are associated with treatment effectiveness.
